The reports I have seen from people in Vienna Austria dont look good...... be prepared for a bit of disappointment

that could turn into a big worry... if people here in Germany are picking the beam up with over 10 dB as far east as Berlin but nothing gets through in eastern Austria (Vienna), then that indicates that there is a very sharp signal drop-off on the edge of the beam. As has been feared.

Take a look again at the map:

_http://www.astra2d.com/images/astra1n/astra1n-satbeams.jpg

Whether or not the beam on that map is accurate, now that we have actual signal strength readings as of this afternoon from people across Central Europe, and keeping in mind that Berlin and Vienna aren't that far apart in terms of dish size region as indicated by the map, Vienna is only about 200 kms east of the outermost "half-circle" which coincidentally runs right through Berlin on the above map.

I'm not tech savvy enough to have any kind of idea how they are going to adjust the beam to focus more on Britain (if SES are indeed still going to work on that), but if they move the beam just a bit more to the Northwest and it really has a sharp edge like that, it might be that much of continental Europe will lose the signal altogether.

Seperate 80 cm dish on 28E with a Humax Freesat for SWMBO.

Probably a bit OTT, but I've scanned in 11126V using the 1.2M and the Dr.HD and it's showing a reading of 19.6dB. ZDF HD on 19.2°E reads 12.5dB by comparison.

@Hexah : Congratulations on being the first to use a Xmas animation before Halloween LOL!!

So I would assume after some downtuning of the new 4HD frequency - since the forums were sooo nice to do SESs work (even providing them with a beam illumination zone) and show them and the rights greedies the beam is much too strong - that ITV would move to 1N and reinstate ITV 1 HD London on 11.973 V as has been testing there and atm showing color bars (7480).

Simple question from a newbie. I don't have any clever boxes - just a humble Humax Foxsat. I am in Southern Spain with a 1.3m dish.

Is there a way of trying to find the 1N C4HD signal or do I have to wait until Freesat update the channels on the receiver?

At the moment I get most channels on 2D with a signal quality of about 80% but C4HD is just OK at 40-50%.

Provided this is a HD box and capable of 8PSK (instead of the until now at 28,2 E used QPSK) , just go to add non freesat channels and enter the channel data:

11.127 V 22.000 DVB-S2 2/3 (or some boxes need auto) 8PSK Pilot ON

VERY strong signal here even with the 100cm through the multiswitch distribution system. Strongest signal I get from 28 East.... if that's the spot, they are spotting widley.

Are you able to get Astra 1D?

The sidelobes are bound to be different on Astra 1N.

the freesat box have a option to manual tuning liek the sky box, i aint sure where the option is but if you find it then put in the above information, which is 11127v 22000 2/3

They have to provide the hottest area for the entire UK including the channel islands so the users will have a top signal even with smallest dishes so the margin to move the beam is not that large.

And I have to admit with the new C4 HD frequency lit up first Robs prediction was on the point - more reliable than lyngsat, flysat and king of sat :-(

What he did not get is the use of 8PSK instead of QPSK - will they use that as standard on 28.2E now too or do you think thats just for the initial C4 HD tests?

Excletent signal on new AStra 1N 11127V here on my location. If it's on UK beam it's a little bit wider than predicted. :D

Wilfried I think the real issue is how sharp the dropoff is after the 6o cm parameter ... 3a and 3b have very sharp drop offs

I have to correct myself, it is one of the best BERs, the signal level is slightly weaker than Eurobird, but stronger than 2D.

so they tested the spotbeam at 1.8E, we just couldnt believe it would work so well.

there been romours that sky might be using a slightly larger dish than they currently use so maybe it so they can boost the signal of those in the uk that might not get a good signal if the beam was moved, there also rumours that sky might be doigna upgrade to all older boxes one so they can have more epg slots for launching and two so i suspecty can maybe move to to better things like 8psk, mpeg4, dvb-s2 which cant be done also freesat might be doigna free box swap again it a rumour but if things are goign to change would make sense
