Finally worked out how to input a new channel into the Humax HDR.

We were getting 40% signal quality on C4HD - now it's 100%.

Bingo!

do they actually need dishes for that signal in the UK ? I wonder if you can get a signal by directing an LNB into the sky

You can get Astra 1D in London by holding an LNB in front of a metal bin lid!

One of the old Scandinavian DTH satellites could be received by using a C120 LNB without the feedhorn so the dipole was open to the sky!

No dish required. That was in Sweden or Finland.

I think it may have been Tele-X, from memory I think the EIRP was in excess of 61dBW.

Not as far as i am aware dnt have spare lnb to try with, but my knowledge of satilletes from old pyhsics thats 10 years old i the satillete dish grab the signal and funnels it to the lnb so goign froma wide beam signal to narrow, even teh spot beam signals are wide in comparsion to the very small focal point of the lnb if i am wrong i apogolise as i say my knowledge is 10 years old

Come on, one guy who is around 200 km westward picks it using 80cm dish...I can't believe that 200 km makes such difference....:(

just joking... I got much stronger signals during the tests at 1.8 East. This bird simply has very powerful TWTAs. They have to broadcast the energy somewhere. Maybe they will adjust the beam more to the west to do even more pre-microwaving of Atlantic fish and to prevent spill-over.

don't know about the 200 km but someone wrote earlier that the 3B sat drops significant at the borders of its illumination zone and 1N is of the same type. But have you tried to delete and set up the frequency from sratch? Or is there another entry for the same frequency in your box? Sometimes boxes keep some former input somewhere in their memory and won't edit it when you enter new data ... just a thought ...

Try making the change then unplug the box from the mains for 1 minute, then switch it on and make the change again, and see it that works.

Yeah, I could easily get the German beam (12525) off 3A in Tunbridge Wells, SE England on Penta 85 dish but had big difficulties on my Gibertini 1.2m dish in west Wiltshire, 200 km away. I get nothing from the German beam in north Bristol on the Penta.
