it seemeth it cometh and goeth ... ;-)

a few minutes after your post it was there (DVB-S 22000 5/6, as strong as before but no services transmitted) later gone, back again and atm gone or changed parameters.

That makes sense as I was on one room and couldn't get a lock on my Panny Freesat TV, then just before going to bed I tried the one in my bedroom and saw lock, thought I'd put the wrong freq in the one in the lounge!!!

I'm getting lock on 10964H this morning, presume can you see a constellation on 11053H? These do both look the same in terms of quality and level here so guess they are both on the spotbeam.

the way Astra 1N is being used makes you wonder what's the point of this interim mission.Maybe they should just have waited for the new Astra 2 sats

I guess its carrier time for that tp again?

(Are they really testing on a saturday or has someone installed an energy saver, that shuts down the tp every x minutes to standby? ) ;-)

Some of the tests over the last few days have definitely been on the widebeam as they were being picked up further east than others.

it about another year before astra 2f? or 2e? gets into orbit so 1n is interim mission to provide the addiotnal capicty that the operators of tv in uk are looking for

I think we are getting far too optimistic in our expectations of 1N. Apart from the few, obvious candidates for moving to the new satellite, ie CH4Hd etc I dont think we will see many changes. The reality is that additional sevices from ITV and the BEEB will be in short supply as they are not exactly flush at the mo. Additionally why should the likes of SKY be in any hurry, when with for example many of the 700,000 Brits living in Spain provide a lot of income from Skys ability at the moment to transmit over widebeam, albeit encrypted. Moving to spotbeams on 1n for Sky would be like turkeys voting early for Christmas...they will wait for as long as possible before they use spotbeam

Once 2E, F and G are all in place SES can heavily market 28.2E to the Middle East and African markets so over time they'll require all UK based transponders to be on spotbeams to avoid interference I guess.

Yes overtime but it isnt going to be for a good 3-4 years , who knows we may get SKY Europe by then buying rights for Germany UK and Italy .....and I for one would welcome that

Channel 5 did confirm that 5*, 5 USA and Channel 5 +1 will be available for Freesat before Christmas. The question is, will the existing frequencies on the Astra 2A move to the Astra 1N or will those channels move to a new frequency?

I very much doubt it since it is neither in the interest of "our" politicians nor the media conglomerats - both intent to divide rather than combine, each for their own reasons. Every step since analogue has build more frontiers rather than build media sans frontiere in europe. In the good ole analogue days it was very easy to receive tv and radio from the neighbour countries. Digital has made that virtually impossible - and the satellite is following in the terrestrics steps ...

Even more (or better: less): AFAIK in The Netherlands and Belgium where analogue has been shut down much earlier than in the UK it has so completely and one has to subscribe with canaal digitaal to get to watch any public broadcasters programs (its free of charge but you have to subscribe from and deal with canaal canibaal). It would be like you have to subscribe with sky to be able to receive BBC 1-4, ITV and C4. If you don't want to deal with them, bad luck, no public program for you. Brave new digital world ...

Yes, it is in a cycle. It runs about 10 seconds in QPSK and then switches to another format. Then after a few seconds it switches back again.
