You have been watching the encrypted wide-beam versions of these channels

We think they will be moving to the 1N narrow-beam at some point so you may well lose them.

However leave the dish up for now as we dont really know how well the 1N signals will get out.

Maybe some of those transponders moved to the Astra 1N last night?

No point asking about individual frequencies solly, we dont know, and any predictions are guesswork.

In the words of the old phrase - "What will be will be"

There are two European Widebeam on Astra 1N.Which of these two European beam you speak:beam 1L or 2beam L? In Eastern Europe we pick up only the signal-11165 H-from 2beam L now.I think you mean second beam when you say Widebeam, that has a footprint greater than the first, as you can see from the map?!
Maybe it's better to specify which of these two beam is really Widebeam when we talk. Not incidentally SES specified three spots.

I'm not sure. 10964 and 11053 TPs - we are getting poor signal (look at Location), only. In the night's going down or no lock status (OP125), over daytime is better...
C4HD have similar strength like these two TPs (little higher, but not much).

So, I don't think, there's EU Widebeam. Still looks like UK spotbeam. Of course, I know, they are still switchin' modulation, but when is on (QPSK), signal is much lower in compare to other TPs from EU1, 2A....

Sorry guys having read back through the thread I think you are correct, it does look like 10964 H and 11053 H are on the same beam as 11127 V. Thought I had seen a favourable report from Poland but Iggy's post #98 confirms what you guys are saying.

So is this now the state of play do we think ?

10964 H 22000 5/6 QPSK DVB-S - Intermittent Signal Lock - UK Spot Beam
11053 H 22000 5/6 QPSK DVB-S - Intermittent Signal Lock - UK Spot Beam
11127 V 22000 2/3 8PSK DVB-S2 - Solid Signal Lock - Channel 4 HD - UK Spot Beam
11165 H 1000 5/6 QPSK DVB-S - Solid Signal Lock - No Services - European Widebeam ?
11171 H 22000 5/6 QPSK DVB-S - Currently Off Air - Various Sky Channels - European Widebeam ?

Strangely if this is the UK Spot beam, then why can I receive this on my 80cm dish where I am with no problems? Thats not really a UK only spot beam if reception is that easy.
Name another spot beam (apart from 2D) that you are less than 1.5º from and that you can't receive.

2D is a different case. It too is considered a spot beam, but you are also in a cold spot. Get much south of Murcia city and it is an easy catch on a 1m dish. In some of Almeria it's possible on an 80cm dish and right down the bottom of Spain they only need a 1.2m aerial.

What you said it's true, these frequencies are more likely UK beam, I have no reception in Krakow but my colleagues from Katowice, Wroclaw, Poznan have very good reception. In Poznan all frequencies can be easily picked up with 120cm offset dish. All confirmed on local forums about Astra !N reception.

Sorry about referring to other forum, but it may be interesting for you guys..

I wonder if ITV will go DD 5.1 when they move to 1N? I would certainly watch more if they do.

That confirms the UK spot beam. The two European widebeams cover Poland.

Why would anyone want to watch a programme just because the audio is a bit better?? :confused

I suppose following that logic you could say why would anyone buy an AV amp or why was stereo developed and why not just use 32 bit mp2 audio to save bandwidth :confused. As you said "audio is a bit better" and that's why, it gives a more enjoyable experience IMO. :D

If the programme is pants to begin with (and thats 95% of ITV's output these days as far as Im concerned) having a better audio experience isnt going to save it. :D

Well I have to agree with the 95% being pants but there are some films that are ok and maybe the odd other program. 5% is over an hour a day. :)

Well I realise this is not the broadcasting forum, but I just have to say that I think ITV have some excellent programming.

ITV1HD already has DD 5.1 AC3 audio alongside the MP2 version. Ok it might not have much programming-wise in 5.1DD but transmission-wise it's all ready to go. The 2D ITV regions (+ STV) on 10936V recently got 5.1DD audio too.

I agree with Blueplatinum; there is more better programming on ITV1. Ok, there's still all the usual dross (and lots of it) but there's some more 'high-brow' stuff if you search the schedules.

Enough programming talk, back to 1N and perhaps we can speculate what these two new spotbeam transponders illuminated will be for? Perhaps one is for one of ITV's new contracted transponders with the other for C5?

Or the existing transponders will move to Astra 1N and go FTA for Freesat?
