Hi, I was wondering if you have had your 1.8m Channel Master installed yet, and what are the results? Can you finally recieve 2D ok, including H transponders, in evenings? As I live very close to you, this would be extremely valuable information. Thanks.

If this mail is for me (Casal Palocco) ,there is no chance with 1.80 must be 3.00. therefore Igave it up, hoping ITV1 & 2 move to the trasponders left free from BBC

Hi Expat, hope you had a good holiday, I've added a couple of reports to your main post in the last week, both in Germany if I remember correctly.

ITV1, plus all the other H transponders, from approx 23.00 to 20.30 (CET +1) with a very good, stable picture (quality 90%, strength 70%). But between 20.30 and 23.30, the picture is either unwatchable or absent, depending on the weather conditions.

Att.Corrigap...I have been doing research all week on this subject instead of spending the time on the beach! Anyway, I think you have been extremely thorough in choosing the Channel Master 1.8 for your location. I have been looking at all kinds of dishes, forums, and shipping costs, the lot! I have also come to the conclusion that the 1.8 CM is the better option. The 2.4 I was looking at was far too big, and I dont think the missus will want her view to the lake obscured by a sat dish. So I am keeping my fingers crossed that you get the best results.
Will you keep the same LNB, or go for a 0.3 120 invacom? I have looked at one almost identical to yours, the universal single. Are you planning to motorise it or have it fixed?
I have found many places in Hässleholm and Helsingborg that sell the CM, so hopefully I can pick one up for a good price.
Anyway good luck with the installation, and I await good results hopefully.

Thanks for the encouragement!

I plan to keep the present LNB because of the good results with ITV1. However, I'll have to see how it works with the CM feedhorn. If I were in your position now, I'd go for the twin output as there have been plenty of posts claiming that twin and quad output LNBs have a slightly better performance than their single counterparts and they are only a bit more expensive (IIRC). Also, then you'll have the possibility of connecting two receivers to the same dish if need be. I have no plans to motorize the new dish.

The installer is coming Tue/Wed next week so hopefully then I'll be able to post some results, fingers crossed.

Interesting that you found places selling the CM in Hbg and Hässleholm. Just out of interest, could you name a couple?

Att Corrigap...I found out which retailers sell CM through there European HQ in Germany. He gave me the distributers name in Denmark, who serve the whole of Scandinavia. He in term gave me the distributers contact in Malmo. The distributers name is Kjaerulff1. Then I just called him up in Malmo and he gave out all the names of retailers who sells CM. It was a bit problematic last week contacting the right people because all are on holiday for the next 2 weeks, but I spoke to someone at Allbacks in Helsingborg and he seemed he know what he was talking about. Well I await your installation results on Tuesday...

RABBIT:

I suggest you contact Bert Dahlström at Transnova AB.

He is selling large dishes in Sweden and is specialised in large dish installation, he sold Channel Masters 3.0m dishes several years ago and also he sold Paraclipse large dishes.

He can get almost what you want.

Go to http://home.swipnet.se/~w-33972/

His site is pretty useless but the contact number is there.

It's a great guy that's been in the business for 20 years.

To all others here who needs large dishes in Europe can contact a company in Sweden called Parabolic AB, they ship worldwide and makes high quality commercial dishes.

www.parabolic.se

They have been the largest dish supplier here in Sweden for the cable-tv industry and makes dishes up to 6.1 meters.

They also have a 3.0 meter offset dish that there are several hundred installations of in Sweden to the cable-tv industry.

It's in one piece and in glasfibre, very solid construction.

However all these dishes come at a high price due to the high quality.

For your information i know that it's possible to receive all channels with a 2.4 meter offset Channel Master antenna in Stockholm, Sweden.

However they have used a Swedish Microwave LNB, possibly the best LNBs in the world for Ku-band.

No better than Invacom in a direct comparison !

Hi Likvid!

Congratulations to your "better footprint workout"!

I'd say it some more tells the truth about required dish sizes in Europe, especially in those regions with a 3 dB signal difference between h/v .

Thank you very much!

You may interested in this footprint map I found on the ******* (http://www.*******.co.uk/) site.

I believe it could be the most accurate yet. It certainly seems to accommodate the anomaly of Spanish Costa reception although I do feel that it is a little generous in SE France.

Have not had much luck with Parabolic and Transnova. Either they dont answer or answer phone.
But as I mentioned earlier in this thread, the distributers for CM in Sweden are Kjaerulff1 in Malmo. I found this out by calling CM European headquaters in Germany. So I have called them a few times and they have given me a few distributers in Helsingborg and Hässleholm. Allbäcks in Helsingborg seems to have given me a good price for the 1.8m dish. So I am waiting for Corrigap to have his one he just bought, fully installed and tested.
I called up Barcom in Stockholm, and they are only a distributer, not a sales-place.
Not too sure where this message should be posted...here, or in the '2d South Sweden' thread!

@ PaulR or anyone.

In your footprint map above (splendid dish icons), you use offset dishes up to a certain size and prime focus dishes thereafter.

Is there an importance to this? My 125cm dish is an offset one?

I can imagine there is a point (circa 12metres) where a prime focus dish would be more suitable and/or the only option

Views?

Have Fun,

Mark.
