This time the bbc didn't advise on a specific date for the switchover, differently from previous satellites.
Strange because these transfers usually require interruption of services for some time at night

the change signal at probleu tonight and tomorow night

The modulation FEC changes all the time - ACM mode.

ACM only makes sense when there is feedback between the client and the host. If there isn't, the only thing that can be checked is uplink success through self monitoring. Adaption for downlink quality at the client location is impossible without feedback. And even if there were feedback from the client, in the case of DTH there are multiple clients (millions) so the signal would have to be adapted for the poorest performing client, which is why ACM doesn't make sense in the concept of DTH. In the case of DTH there is no feedback from the client, so all the provider can can do is operate a non-adaptive, good-enough policy (fixed modulation and correction), and if one of the clients goes offline due to downlink quality (rainfade for example) that's tough luck.

switching has begun.... 11.720H and 11.739V had breaks and RF level went down here. Probably on 2E Europe beam now.

12.012V was just switched.....

so the news is, all the 2A transponders so far go to the 2E Europe beam. Not the spot beam.

Minor signal differences here but they could be down to atmospherics or measuring differences. Still waiting for 'the big one'

Interesting that 2A was cleared first. End of an era for me, had Sky digital from the start. Now I need to decide if it's worth holding on for 2G in case they do use the Europe beam for some decent channels (not convinced they will), setup a Slingbox or just cancel and save £££... The latter is very tempting, but can I actually do it?!
