significantly more than the 80 then, and if I remember correctly most are part of sky platform. So I'm sure that if 2A was being relieved of all transponders the message would not have just mentioned short outage for 80 channels with PID changes?

Agreed. Too much else going on and 2E seems to have slipped down the priority tree.

Well, funnily enough most of the post in this thread are NOT "on this subject"

Yes, off course you can have it!
It's just a table and a diagram where I fill in what I want to show in the diagram
Thanks. So all that data has to be filled in manually, right? Doesn't work from a TLE file?

Here's something that puts things into perspective. I've listed most of the recent SES European satellites from launch to SES's announced commercial service start dates. (Days may be out by a day or so due to timezones or my quick counting!)

Astra 1M: Launched 06.11.08. Started service 20.01.09. Approx 75 days from launch to service
Astra 3B: Launched 21.05.10. Started service 16.06.10. Approx 27 days from launch to service
Astra 1N: Launched 06.08.11. Started service 24.10.11. Approx 79 days from launch to service
SES 5: Launched 10.07.12. Started service 17.09.12. Approx 69 days from launch to service
Astra 2F: Launched 28.09.12. Started service 21.11.12. Approx 54 days from launch to service
Astra 2E: Launched 29.09.13. Starts service... ?? 59 days so far (17th Dec is about 80 days)

Yes manual input only, it's a Quick'n Dirty solution.

Yes, with the holidays things could get delayed but what I was trying to suggest is that most of the recent satellites seemed to take about 70-80 days before the entered service (with the exception of Astra 3B which was strangely quick and Astra 2F) so I can't see there being anything unusual about the situation with Astra 2E.

I agree. It was, perhaps, not unreasonable at the time to assume (guess!) that because the launch was delayed there would be a need to get a wiggle on in order to catch up, but it's also reasonable to assume that SES' planning is conservative in order that fatal critical paths do not arise.

After all, viewers in the intended target audiences are entirely unaffected.

Sky may be referring specifically to the ones they uplink. The Discovery, UKTV, QVC, C4 & Cartoon Network/CNN TP's aren't uplinked by Sky but that's certainly not half the channels available from the Satellite.

We'll no doubt find out in the morning if it is indeed a damp squib or not!

Thus cannot understand why some members of the " intended target area " are getting so passionately involved.

Leave that to us on the fringes:-doh

Some entertainment while you wait, Cheap Thrills in a way.

2E-nov-27.jpg

Now I expect the betting on who/what the the new fella in the group is.
The area covered is the same as in the picture of the 25:th of november.

Notice the big improvement of the contrast in the picture. I've added a
bigger lens hood to get rid of stray-light from a nearby road that somehow
snuck into the camera. Really high-tech stuff, carefully selected printer
paper with some fancy black paint from the junk-bin. Paper rolled into
a funnel and secured with rubber bands to the lens. (Canon L bands with
a red ring of course.)
