Do you think Roscosmos are a bit miffed they've not made the press release first detailing the return to mission of Proton? ILS also weren't involved in the 2nd July's failure.

Maybe - but with so much riding on this next launch I bet there are a few very level headed people countering the enthusiasm of many more others who are trying to get the next flight up and away. Times like this need someone to take control and say no if there is any doubt on anything. Another failure would be the end and so much better to swallow a bit of pride, be pragmatic and ensure every dot is dotted and every t crossed. Once everything that can be done has been done and its all been checked again can the bird be allowed to go. I don't envy the person with the ultimate control on this issue - nerves of steel and a resolute command will be needed in the face of massive commercial and political influences and pressures. I wish he or she the very best.

Nah 2E is safe - the Russians only have a poor launch record with their own satellites!

All they need to do is remember to keep the pointed end heading towards the sky. Anything else is liable to end with 150 tons of scrap metal landing in the back yard of some poor Kazakh herdsman :D

Maybe it'd be good to watch this "on location", AS: Great idea for a holiday (sic!).

Kazakh holidays:

http://www.regent-holidays.co.uk/country/kazakhstan/

Kazakhstan holidays will take you to Almaty, the former capital and a prosperous city with broad boulevards, chic restaurants, shops and leafy Panfilov Park, home to the wooden Zenkov Cathedral. In contrast, the new capital, Astana, has a proliferation of skyscrapers dominated by the futuristic Baiterek Tower. Make time to visit Turkestan to view the magnificent 14th-century mausoleum and desolate Fort Shevchenko by the Caspian Sea. Tour the Baikonur Cosmodrome, from where Yuri Gagarin was launched into space, and you may even come across international astronauts preparing to take off on manned flights.

Weeell its at least another month before we will be able to talk seriously about 2E so it doesnt really matter if this thread slides a bit at times.

In response to joddle; I take your point and there will be a lot of commercial pressure to get the next launch up in the sky. I guess though that in the decision making SES would have had a big say as ultimately it's their bird that's flying on board and should it be lost then it's 3yrs for them to build another.

SES must have had a central role in decision making at the FROB too as it's out of this that the 15th has been decided. With 4wks to go then guess there's still time to make scrutinizing checks of the Briz-M prior to roll out.
