Fascinating reports - thanks to everyone for posting their info on 11023.

If this is indeed 2F the drop off at the edge of the beam must be phenomenal!

Don't have any fancy metres here for db levels in Fife Scotland but getting 97% Level/Quality on 11023H via Sky dish

EDIT: Should add, that's in heavy rain, so impressive.
i ws impressed when i got 98% this morning in the monsoon rain

well i did predict that might be teh case that east of the beam would drop quickly and i did predict potential spain and lower might get some reception but not that great, i can post the image agian if anyone wants it maybe see how close i am as i think it even worse than my prediciton

yes, here in Hanover/central Germany, it seems to go from bad to worse within just a few miles... somewhat decent reception report at "digitalfernsehen.de" from Detmold (70 km SW of Hanover), while 11023 is completely dead with zero signal in Hanover on my 80cm prime focus dish.

Under different circumstances, you could almost congratulate SES for quite an amazing feat of engineering... they've really outdone themselves this time with the signal drop-off... but at the moment I'm afraid I'm getting quite angry at whoever designed the reflector for this spot beam <img src='http://cdn.satellites.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smilies/pissed.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=''O'-red' />

It seems that the beam is squeezed but really only in one way - ie along the short (or E W) axis which would explain the rapid drop off being observed for those to the east and west. It also explains why some parts of spain, ie those lying along the long axis of the footpint (as I am in Valencia) are seemingly less affected. In reallity, in order to be able to cover the whole UK with the spot beam, the long axis has to be somewhat extended which aids those in southern france and the eastern side of Spain. Those in the West of Spain and Portugal I fear will fair less well.

It is interesting that for me in the south of the UK signal levels are exactly as they always have been on 11023H. Infact out of all the "2C band" transponders it is the weakest by a couple of %.

Well, really looks like thats it about UK channels for me - still have a recording of the Astra 2F launch which is called "Astra-2F_-_Ariane-schiesst_den_Teufel_hoch/" on my harddisk - in english "Ariane shoots up the devil" ;)

No signal at all here in Munich on 11023H on a 0.8m dish which was "ok" for 2D reception (some weak channels, but ok), but its not possible for me to mount anything bigger.

Relatives in Hessen (Wetzlar / north of Frankfurt) can receive this transponder on a 0.8m dish:
_http://www.openstreetmap.org/index.html?mlat=50.557778&mlon=8.504444&zoom=6

Its quite weak there, but still usable.
