No sticking this year - which is strange as it did last year yet this year is colder and for longer.

Yet another 3" of the white stuff overnight.

Fortunately the prospect of Lentils for Crimble Lunch has receded after a major re-victualling exercise yesterday afternoon.

A light dusting here overnight though there's a fiercely cold NE wind blowing.

Lentils aren't on the menu here either (if they ever were). I've been invited to Xmas lunch at friends for who I mind their cats when they are in the UK. She makes the best Yorkshires!

No sign of my motor sticking here, but then it didn't last year either. Perhaps it being a new motor helps?

No more snow and its a lovely morning. The sun is glinting on the existing snow and it looks all very pretty, but its bitterley cold outside still - the wrong side of -5.

No satellite stuff for the moment (aside from a 43cm minidish that was on the house already), Samsung SyncMaster T27B550 Smart TV & Monitor, and a few computers...

No additional snow here either, it's bluddy cold though, even indoors!!!

Must have been pretty damned cold overnight though, cos where they gritbox refillers gritted the road, it's frozen up again, so, yeah, it definitely god cold enough to make the salt ineffective... :-rofl2

A link with graophs on the concentrations required to turn ice from a solid.

From memory salting is only effective down to -10 degrees or so even though melting occurs at lower temperatures with higher concentrations.

Xmas Greetings!!

It began snowing after 9am and we had a covering in less than 10 minutes. However, the sun is out now and most of it has gone though it's stayed cold.

I'm a bit grumpy as the Rayburn went out, the phone rang at 8am (old French friend ringing from Oz) and I was still in bed and my French neighbours son must have had a party as three times during the night there were two quad bikes tearing round the adjacent fields. I got a very disturbed night so I've decided to postpone my (Xmas) lunch date till tomorrow.

Before you ask, I do have a plentiful supply of humbugs standing by.

Quelle fromage!

Sorry to hear all that. Just cold (Imagine our surprise) here but sunny enough to perhaps brave a short walk to burn off our Roast Lamb with Gordon Ramsay's Turmeric & Chilli Roast Spuds (Not sure what Ramsay is going to eat now I've nicked his Tatties).

Enjoy tomorrow, mon ami.

Beautiful afternoon, so have done a quick couple of miles Post Prandial Perambulation with neighbour's dog and we're lucky enough to see three Long Tailed tits and a Family of Bullfinches. And some slush.

The snow is back here too - another couple of inches overnight. It had gone warm enough yesterday for a thaw to start - the grass was starting to reappear on the slope opposite the cottages. Its disappeared again :(

However the weather forecast says it going warmer over the next couple of days so maybe it'll shift.

Boxing Day Hunt has just gone through: Reduced by the weather to two Dog Handlers in full Hunting Dress, pack of Dogs on leads, and two hangers-on on Quad Bikes.

Well, during the last week all our snow has vanished. The temperatures are slowly climbing (nearly 4°c now) and it's quite benign outside. I did hear hunters yesterday though only with dogs. No sign of horses or red jackets!! (Strictly armed with shotguns and a fortifying drink)

Thanks to above zero temperatures almost all our snow has vanished as well. :) Theres one or two odd patches left where it had got compacted down but they should disappear in the next couple of days as well.. Hooray

Just been to Thirsk to get the Sunday Times and some more Tonic Water ................... only there was no Tonic Water in Lidl, Tesco, The Coop or anywhere else for that matter: Apparently they had a significant Water Mains issue (as per Northern Ireland) for a few days so all the shops ran out of anything bottled water-like!

Looks like we're on Gin & Orange for now.
