No satellite stuff for the moment (aside from a 43cm minidish that was on the house already), Samsung SyncMaster T27B550 Smart TV & Monitor, and a few computers...

It's not quite 2 inches round these parts, but it's most definitely snowing, bbc weather guesstimate says that it'll turn to heavy snow at about the time of the eclipse, so whether or not we'll notice any reduced sunlight, I don't know... :)

Well 2 1/4 hours later and it is thawing rapidly and everywhere is mush, I doubt we will notice much reduction in sunlight as it probably will not get past grey all day

A light covering here, but the clouds look like they have more to dump on us. Just the sort of day to be unloading a tonne of anthracite, which was arranged last week. Silly man to trust the weather forecast!

Well, I've noticed it's darker than it should be, can't see the sun for the clouds, but it's certainly dull out there, so I guess we're being eclipsed... :)

The same.

Are you one of those who still has a drawer full of Groats and a Tape Measure calibrated in Rods, Poles and Perches?

Nope, but the local road systems round here are still in Miles, we've not been Europeanised yet... :-rofl2

The Met Orifice have been caught lying  about the fact they forecast a barbecue winter, they are now trying to pretend that they warned the cabinet of severe cold.

Obviously, given all the planing and expense that went into Heathrows preparations for the extreme cold weather...

...........it would need to be a rather large drawer. (BTW, no need for the formality of Mr. HRH will suffice)

Back on topic (!) It's raining 'comme un vache pis' as they say here. Upside is that the temperature has risen by over 8° and it's now an almost tropical 10°C.

Well be low zero this evening but a gloriously clear night so I decided to set the birdwatching scope up outside and have a look at Jupiter. All four moons easily visible even on low power :)

Allso had good views of the Orion nebula & whilst I was idly looking around had 3 faint meteors go over in less than 5 minutes all from the same radiant so must have been Quadrantids.

Our road is normally nice and quiet but you wouldnt believe how many cars went along in to 20 minutes I was outside - each one spoiling my night vision. Number 4 decided to have their outside security light on as well - managed to shield that one out by standing in the shadow of one of one of the 1m dishes :-rofl2

My ADSL is only rarely up to 1MBps ... it's generally nearer 512K, so not a vast improvement on DialUp anyway, sadly.

Given how far out in the sticks you are, I wouldn't have thought that dial-up would get anywhere near 56kbps.

No idea ............. but 512k Broadband isn't exactly luxury either - especially as the DSL is absent once more. Using friend's PC right now.

Grrrr.
