Barnsley?? Just how far from civilization are you?? Oh, I trust they didn't have too much hassle at the customs post.

Just over a mile from Galashiels but it feels much more remote as there are only 2 farms in the valley (At the moment - the north end has been zoned for building....)

No idea - it was ordered from a shop in Selkirk which is only 5 miles down the road.

Ah, the wonders of centralisation!! However, when I had my built in oven for the kitchen units delivered it came from Brest, a return trip of over 600km!

I'm waiting for some vacuum cleaner bags which I guess are coming from Newton Aycliffe in Co. Durham, what's the betting they'll be delayed cos of the snow round there? :-rofl2

Not urgent though, thankfully, but I would like to use my Sanitaire... :p

I hope that's an outdoor toilet...

Wouldn't like to sit on the seat of that particular toilet if it's frozen over, that's for sure... :-nuts

No additional snow here, but temperatures are said to not rise above freezing, so, that could be fun while trying to do some washing if the pipes have frozen... :confused

Well thankfully no more snow overnight, but I haven't set foot outside yet. Going to attempt a trip to town mid-morning, so hopefully the bitter temperatures will have abated by then.

We did have a light snow shower yesterday afternoon, some of which has remained though not a trace on the roads. It was -2°C this morning when I took the dogs out just before 9am. Right now it's sunny with little cloud. I'm hoping it stays clear, as I've got an invite to English friends (for whom I mind three cats when they are in the UK) for a traditional Sunday lunch.

Seeing the post about the toilet reminded me of my pre teen years living in a terraced colliery house, complete with outside loo in the yard and tin bath in front of the kitchen fire. Happy Days!!

Oh, no. I feel some anecdotes about shoe boxes, lakes and 37 hour days coming along.

Luxury.

My dad often said that on really cold days that when using an outdoor loo, you had issues with your, ahem, "stream" freezing up and having to be broken off....

Thank goodness for indoor plumbing... :-rofl2

I used to go to a bar that had an outdoor toilet.

In winter it was freezing and the floor was slippy. Falling into the filth was a real hazzard.

In summer it stank so bad you wanted a gasmask, the floor was like superglue and it had more diseases swimming around than all Africa.

The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine probably had a special research interest in it, at least that may be the reason it was never cleaned.

Will that be roasted frogs legs with English Mustard?

Well waddya know, it's snowing again.

I managed to do the fifteen mile round trip to Thirsk this morning - by the time I got there, the Vindscreen Viper blades had once more frozen themselves to the glass, despite the heater being on full blast!
