'orrible night here. Driving rain, thunder and strong winds. Has calmed down a bit since I got up and the dishes look intact. Must forage for peasants to put into dry storage.....

Seems like continuous rain here, since yesterday, still pouring down now. The gardens under water, and no sign of this Indian Summer that was mentioned !!!!!

Think we'll miss the worst of the rain here in Reading, passing by to the West of us, although Newbury and Marlborough may not be so lucky.

Not according to the forecast for tonight, though you may miss the absolute deluge, which is likely to hit Bedfordshire

The wind is getting up here, not much rain yet, just the occasional squally showery.

Its a bit different from yesterday - at 10am it was so still I could hear church bells ringing from miles away to the south.

We have the same sort of calm tonight. Tomorrow morning is the north and Ireland, then it all whips round to the south again.

Anyone that has already got flooding, it's not finished yet.

Been up a ladder in the unrelenting rain ...for over an hour ..
Had no choice as I had to disconnect the piezo siren on the independently powered alarm box this morning..
All of which is as a direct result of a failed 1 amp fuse ...and flat battery in the alarm ..
All of which is directly related to the massive continual power failures in our area ..a week or so ago..
Totally burgered up my default codes ..and thus had no option but to reset to factory default ..once I'd replaced said fuse and battery...
..of course ..I had no choice but to disconnect the siren this morning ..and reconnect this evening ..
Both jobs done in the driving rain..and poor visibility..
Still have to do walk tests ..and set entry exit zones and delays ...and codes etc..
Blaady good job I can do these things myself..
I feel sorry for the 100s of other alarm system owners who were also touched by the outage curse..
At one point during the biggest failure/outage...there was the most dreadful cacophony...which sounded like it stretched for miles..as alarm after alarm wailed in unison..
The perils of modern living..

It's got gradually heavier and more persistent here since my report earlier - but so far nothing to frighten the horses (Or the sheep, goats, cows and flammable peasantry)

@VS: Supply Companies are obliged to compensate you (and generously so) for enduring repeated cuts over a one year period - Can't recall the exact figures, but durations exceeding 4 hours four or more times rings a bell (Well not any bell, obviously - certainly not an alarm bell).

There were numerous outages ..but only one exceeded the 4 hours as I remember ..
Power went out as I left my shop around 5pm ..and they had the mobile Genny in the street at 12:30 that night ..and power restored..
We ran on that for almost a week ..and not once did it fail ..but it did get topped up a few times with fuel.

Yes, they are acutely aware of the compensation conditions!

Some years ago we had a power cut caused by a J&P Fuse blowing in an electrical storm - the relevant pole supplied only our farmhouse and two other properties.

It took 23 hr and 53 mins before they restored it - the "Engineer" was in a panic about locating this pole as he knew the 24hr allowed period was about to expire. I told him where it was - wish I hadn't!

No such luck for power failures round here, seems the strings that bring us power are stronger than the elephants that are blowing at them, so no chance of compensation for us... :-ohcrap

So, the rain is yet to relent - no abnormal flooding here, fortunately (I say "abnormal" as the lanes are badly drained and flood in places if a sheep has a wee), but the local news reports many road closures in the wider area.

Anybody suffering?

Edit: I Posted this in bed >>> Now up, I've checked around and found two window sill awash with water that has percolated in through the top edges of my window frames. The irony is, I'm in the middle of improving the sealing and dressing the lot with Ronseal after having them reglazed last month. Rain stopped play. Rain gets in. It's also seeped into the wallpaper adjacent, but fortunately those bits were sun-faded and due for replacement anyway.

Yeah, I keep losing signal on my Nokia box while trying to watch Star Trek on CBS Action... O-Ha

Could just be down to my not very accurate alignment of the Z2 dish though, but I don't fancy going out there right now to try and improve it it's a tad breezy out there... O-Ha

Not bad here on the North Somerset coast - sunny but plenty of thick clouds around.
