Not there ATM (obvs) but I don't think that would help. 1.99Mbps is just about the real world maximum you can get on ADSL. Theoretical maximum is 2.2Mbps IIRC.

I thought ADSL was max 8Mbit or are we talking about the very first version here?

In 2013 I moved to a house which didn't have 21CN enabled on its exchange, so I was on the up to 8Mbit package then.

Back in 2003 when I first signed up with PlusNet (that my parents still use), I was on 2Mbit package... At £65 a month!

Yes ADSL is 8Mbps, my mistake. But inside the modem I recollect seeing something about noise figures and it talked about a maximum of 2.2Mbps.

Maybe they're planning on changing a setting inside the modem? If so, they'll have a problem as everything is switched off and disconnected from all sockets! However I did tell them that I wouldn't be there in two weeks and everything would be unplugged and they said no problem so who knows?

Currently paying for (and getting) the Clannet Silver package thus:

Have cast aside my Yorkshire thrift and asked to go on the 20/20 Gold Package, for an extra fiver a month. Also removes my 20GB cap and allows unlimited usage.

May have to wait a couple of days as the Admin lass only works three mornings a week!

Not sure. Until Tuesday, maybe.

It's just a matter of the lass in the Office amending my profile.

And I'm not paying the new sub. until 2 July, so will be getting a good three weeks or so of extra performance for nowt.

It's interesting that your upload and download are almost the same. Looks like you're on a Symmetric upload/download system.

Yes, all the available Clannet packages have that feature.

Of course, when the system is heavily contended, the Upload speed tends to remain near max while the Download speed can drop. Somewhat counter-intuitive when one has had to put up with traditional (nay, old-fashioned) copper ADSL in previous years!
