my mind has been spinning lately - as to what to do re dish upgrade....ive binned off the Triax - I think the only option im going to consider is going from my 1m Gibby to a 1.2m Laminas...im a bit of a DX'er - just casual, how much improvement on feeds etc do you think i would see?

would the xtra cost be worth it for that extra 20cm or so of dish....?

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

Just under 50% extra area, value of the additional signal is of course subject to where you get the dish and how much you pay for it.

It's exactly what I did..and the answer in my case was yes...though of course living in the same country as the dealer helped with carriage costs...

Somewhere in England (possibly?)!
OTOH, quite a few Gibby OP 125 L dishes on ebay for "next to nothing" - See the "Bargain S/H Big dishes...." thread because there was/is(?) one in Horsham for £35 BIN, and thus not that far from you.

PS: That dish is definitely a "step up" from a TD110 in terms of both SS & SQ - OTOH, it IS heavier.

Thanks mate. Yeah I know. As cheap as it is . I really want something that goes on my new dark motor. Also clearance will be an issue on my roof with that bracket. I would need a stab 120 as downward pole motors cant fit on a gibby 125 afaik

My OP 125 L IS on a Dark Motor - my only problem was that the motor clamps on the pole needed "beefing up" to prevent them distorting ("further" in my case) under the extra mass/weight - can post a link to my "fix" for that if requested!

OTOH, that might result in the "clearance problem".

TBH, I don't understand your last "go from underneath and upwards"??? Please can you explain more clearly what your mean?

FWIW, the DM with the Gibby on it was installed absolutely "as normal", apart from the fact that I had to brace it backwards to the fence post behind it because the combined weight of the motor + dish caused the pole ( a 2" scaffolding pole!) to bend a little! - that might also be a problem for you as well, regardless of which dish you finally select!

what i mean is, i "thought" the bracket of the gibby 125 has a plate at the top of the bracket, i.e so the pole (or motor stub) has to go from underneath rather than downwards ..i.e a one way entry hole....? maybe im wrong then. so u can fit a motor from top or bottom then....mine is a 2inch scaffold pole also.

clearance issue attached

Again, I can't quite "understand" what you "mean" ("couple" of "vodka mixes" might explain that :( ) but , from your photos, I would replace the existing dish with a "bigger" Gibby - and then, maybe,
- raise the pole a bit to allow for the overall larger dish top-to-bottom dimension
- and fit a "braceing" strut, just below the guttering, between the wall and the pole to reduce the possibility of the latter bending under the additional weight.

I 'think' what the OP means is that the larger Gibi's design means that the dish face mounting bracket stops the dish being mounted on a downward pointing motor, hence the need for a Stab 120 motor.

Actually, it does NOT! - because that's how my OP 125 L IS mounted (and was set up by CH) on my "Superior DM" "downward pointing motor" and "works" :D

Why bother, just get a longer scaffold pole to do the honours.

From what I remember reading somewhat earlier, I think his"pole" is already "long enough" to be "uplifted a bit" :-rofl2

OK...perhaps your OP125L differs from the images I've seen which seem to preclude the dish from being mounted on a downward pointing motor stub..

It's a removeable plate, designed to allow some movement on the post without slipping down.

1.25m Gibby on DM - and the "beefing up" mod to the clamps on the 2" scaffolding pole to stop the jaws of those from bending (any further)!
(and, Yes, the G-clamp is still there :D)

NB: the pole is nearly 4m tall, and needed those braces to the fence posts to stop it bending under the weight - might not have been necessary had the pole had been on T&K's on a solid wall and with the dish immediately above it.

Thanks for clearing up the removable plate bit - THAT is what i meant, however i didnt know it was removable....
I might now try and get a Gibby 125 after all.
I still think there is some work to do re the mount, i dont think it goes on nicely without some padding out or something, ive read.

If, by "padding out" you mean to fit the dish on the motor arm, then No because it clamps directly on (or, at least, I didn't see CH adding anything like that when he fitted the Gibby on my DM.).
.Gibby on DM.JPG
PS: that's Red & Green "camo paint" on the dish & brackets - and not rust!!

Different rotors have different dimensions of the pole the reflector clamps to.
