GTMedia GTCombo 4:2:2 receiver

Just got around to checking this out - my Combo is set to auto res for the display and running at 4k2k-60hz . The display is a 4k UHD32" IIyama monitor - looked at all the fta UHD channels and there wasn't any change in picture quality going on.

thanks @John - other 4k channels are ok - its just the SES channels - doesnt bother me too much - youtube 4k is also fine. just a bit odd.

Must be a setting on my TV. R u sure they look AS bright and vibrant compared to other FTA 4k channels ?

Are the channels HDR? If the TV can't produce the brightness required for HDR, the picture ends up looking dark & dull in order to maintain the contrast (dynamic range) between dark areas & highlights.

Watching a 4:2:2 fta feed on 23.5E this morning for ZDF. Clear pics but jerky. At least you can see what's going on!

£80 Domestic 4:2:2 kit as opposed to £3k plus- Pro 4:2:2 kit, can't see it getting too much better with this 1st incarnation of this Combo but you never know... early days for it at the moment so can't grumble too much and i really appreciate GTMedia giving it a crack - even in this 1st attempt along with the other trick it has up it's sleeve it's certainly as you say Simon >> "At least you can see what's going on!"<< .
It could possibly be the first for others to follow suit and perfect ?

My GT Combo arrived today, seem to have some sort of wifi mini keyboard alongside it too...

My first question for those who have one... How do you upgrade it? Had a click about and it wasn't entirely clear.

Nice one, looks like you had the posh version lol.
A couple of ways or so to check for updates
1. When connected to the net It usually has a splash screen message telling you there's an update available
2. Also - if you go into 'Customize' , > Startup Setting > Startup > Perform app at startup > Update. You can then just click on the icon at any time on the startup page.
3. Sign up or visit GTMedia site for the GTCombo section and read up on all sorts of things to do with the new receiver. You can download the latest FW to usb stick and upgrade the Combo manually.
There could be other ways cos i'm still learning to drive it myself.

Keyboard might be handy for entering certain things quicker I guess.

Well my box has died after about an hour of use, just says Boot on the front now with no HDMI output. Fun.

Have you got a suitable, spare, PSU, you can test it with?

Your images also show that it is an Android receiver, so the keyboard will be very useful, if you load KODI.

Aye tried another PSU same issue. Popping the the filmware on a usb to manually reflash it. Fingers crossed.

If you test KODI, please post some findings, especially if you find any 4K streams, and how the movies play.

Have others received their box with a keyboard included. I’m assuming you received the model you ordered . Have you hooked up the satellite cable to the back of the box and tested that side of things yet.

I had a similar blip a few weeks back when i couldn't get the remote to pair with the Combo and so would not move on to the next stage of the upgrade process - a tip from the GT Media team pointed me in the direction of using a usb mouse plugged in to get me onto the next stage and full operation but without the remote which it did. I managed to pair it afterwards after a bit of a Kerfuffle. Re-set the box a few times since and it paired ok straight away.

Is there a guide or instructions on how do to that? This is my first Android box so not a clue!

Leave the wireless keyboard out of the equation during the initial setup. That can be added later. Best to set the box up as simply as possible.
