Hi -- I bought one of the Freesat V7 boxes about a week ago ... and finally had time last night to have a proper play .... a great little box, especially for £19 .00 including postage :) .... paid many times that just for an l.n.b. ... which brings me to my question? i cant see a "user defined" setting in the l.n.b setup menu ... to set it for k/a to connect a Inverto k/u/ka .. l.n.b as i can on my F15 ....
maybe it not possible with this box .... any suggestions ?.

No user defined setting unfortunately. The setting exists in the DB PC editor, tried it that way but it didn't work. I can't see why this can't be added in a firmware update though. For now I use the 9750 setting.

Just to add, that the tuner seems pretty good on the V7 Freesat box of tricks ;)
i did a blind scan in C band at 58 West last night and it caught everything i get from there with the F15 ... :)

Yes its very good nelson, its accurate as well, only thing ive noticed it sometimes gets 27500 as 27499 that's the only fault I can find with it, don't know if you so the post about 16APSK earlier in this thread, today I locked 32APSK :)

Yes i saw the 16APSK post ....
That this box was claimed to do 16APSK and 32APSK ... and at a sub £20.00 cost was the reason i bought it to be honest .... but its turning out to be a good (unbelievably small) box in lots of ways.

Somewhere in England (possibly?)!
Seems to be a similar (possibly worse!) problem with L.O.F.s with the Opensat box as I tried to enter a new sat (31.5W) but the only options I could choose were those for C-Band sats - no Ku /Ka band L.O.F.s could be entered.

If your keeping the box might be best to start a thread you will get help from other users, as scopus mentioned its a totally different box to the freesat V7

Point taken, but I am unlikely to keep the OpenSat box, and so am also unlikely to need to start a separate thread - so just making a few comparative comments to show the relatively commonality of some features and issues between the two brands (and so dissuade anyone else from considering buying one because the Freesat boxes - my V8 should be here tomorrow or Friday - appear to be a lot better supported).

I see your point, but if someone in the future is looking for information on the openbox V8 they wont look here, just trying to help you and others :)

Understood - but just did a quick forum search on "Openbox" and it threw up a number of threads other than this one; and so someone who is looking would find out more about Openboxes should begin to get some idea of the issues relative to the Freesat boxes. Nevertheless, it might be a "good idea" to see what is being said and found out here (whereas if all they find are separate threads then they may not get the overall picture).

However, I will now keep my Openbox comments to a minimum unless I find something of very specific importance.

No carry on, it was only a suggestion, with it being a totally different box to the thread title I thought it warranted its own thread :)

Cheers, and I have a question: does the Freesat box indicate both Signal Strength and Signal Quality (because the Opensat box shows only Signal Strength)?

Hi jeallen, it shows signal intensity and signal quality
Just Sharing This - Free Sat V7 HD Satellite TV Receiver
Ah, Thanks!

The Opensat shows it in a different place - the "Antenna Setup" Menu - very "logical".

TBH: I was simply looking at the displayed screen from a particular programme, and, on this one, you get the SS (amongst other things inc PIDs etc.), but not the SQ, when you press the Info button.

BM

Thanks & here's a couple of "interesting" equivalents from 21.5E - the first shows the programme screen with Info pressed and the 2nd shows the Antenna Setup screen on the same transponder, but compare the Signal numbers = totally different!
If you can't read the first one, it says "30%" whereas the 2nd one reads "90%":-rofl2

Anything like that "difference" on the Freesat?

:-lol Thanks I will check this out on the V7, it does tend to give high readings compared to other receivers, but the tuner is very good, don't like to admit it but it beats the TBS 5925 that cost over £200

So ..the V7 I ordered Sunday ..having seen the one Nelson had in his pocket ..
..and less than £20 ..
Well I had to didn't I ..
Just hooked it up to a Usals Motor TD88 system ..but before I set off the scan ..
Can some one quickly tell me roughly storage capacity on this Cig Packet receiver ?
I dont want to burst it with storing to many channels on it's first outing ..
lol
