So ..capacity wise it the test was inconclusive ..as I got out of range scanning East at 1989 channels ..
The duration of scan at that point was 1 hour 45 minutes..
doh!

So ..I guess I'm a numpty ..
I assumed that 1W had already been scanned ..
Not so ..using the default pre-sets
The V7 scans the sats in a rather convoluted order ..and having completed the Eastern birds ..it then proceded to scan to the West ..
so ..
Scan not finished ..and over 2000 channels now..
lol

Now travelling West ..
currently on Amos2/3 channel count is at 2032 ..transponders 734

So with the defaults ..the unit appears to scan zero to out of range East ..then returns to Zero ..and scans West ..?
Obviously this is the way the sat list is prepared at factory ..and for me is ..'Highly Illogical Captain'
lol
I'll try and post more info if it concludes before I have to leave for work..

Just tried to scan Amos 4W again with the Opensat V8 before I send it back - and all it picked up were transponders on Atlantic Bird @5W - poor positioning!

Anyone else seen anything like that, or is it just "what these boxes does"?

PS: in the "Test Signal" sub-menu in the "Antenna Setup" menu (scroll to the "Test Signal" line and press "OK") it can be made to do some sort of "Dish Moving" action - presumably to try to peak the signal - but I have yet to see any momentary changes in the SS or SQ!

Final Tally using the factory preset channels on the arc ..
Channels 2116 transponders scanned 0791
Hit the 'out of range ' travelling west after 2 hours and 20 minutes of scanning .
So over the 2000 mark..

The Freesat V8 Super just turned up (on time via RM for a change)

First impressions:
- More substantial rectangular metal case, unlike the curved top of the Opensat, so other things can be parked on top of it
- Better written and clearer manual - states 10,000 TV & Radio channel capacity, but no mention of processor speed
- 10mb/s Ethernet instead of 100mb/s on the Opensat - seems to confirm that this might have a slower processor than the Opensat.
- Different remote with TV control facility - looks more promising than the Opensat one.
- No batteries - again!

Supplier's pics are here, and it appears to look like those.

Now to hook it all up and see how (well) it works - probably say something more later in the afternoon/evening as I have a webinar to watch, and then some gardening (and re-laying some cables to the dishes & SDR antenna!).

Thanks for the test :), factory preset is not good, best using blind scan:)
As stated at start of the test ..
I was using blindscan ..
but only taking TV and unencrypted..

When I referred to factory presets ..I meant the satellites included in the factory list..
No extras input by me..

Using the 100 (110 nominal!) cm Triax. Wasn't expecting much in the way of channels, but all I got was "spillover" from Atlantic Bird - same thing happened yesterday when I got spillover from the Badr sats at 26E when, vainly, seeing if I could get anything on 25.5E. Probably just hoping for the unachievable with a dish of this size.

Not sure this has been mentioned before, but has anyone managed to add extra sats to the Freesats? (could not do that with the Openbox because it would only allow C-Band L.O.F.S and I have no C-Band kit).

Look again at the Openbox .... it's the same as my Skybox and when you add a new Satellite, it does indeed appear only to permit C Band LO .... but instead of scrolling down, scroll up and you'll find the various Ku Band LO choices magically appear. It isn't obvious or instinctive, but it is definitely there.

Yes, easy to add extra sats. I have added a few for the west Clarke belt, as the default list concentrates on the east side.
