........................................... channel4-7 and Yesterday, Dave, Drama etc - the only channels that never worked for me, all of a sudden this weekend I found them all working to a greater or lesser degree - signal quality was next to 0% but they worked.
SO what's changed ? has the dish moved ever so slightly in wind etc ? has the signal strength got stronger ? or is it just the clear winter skies ? - I assume the latter........................................................
Same here in España, Alicante, fringe for the U.K. beam.
Yes, definately time of year affects the reception of these channels, winter always better, summer temperatures daily of around 34.0ºC allow us a superb life but affects our sat hobby. :-ohcrap
Bigger dish obviously lessens the reception 'problem' but with us here LNB skew is vital, vital and more so with the switch off of some SD chnnels.

No complaints from me, had bigger problems when we depended on Astra 2D.

Good luck. :Y

Just revisting this after a few months, the oher day I noticed 4-seven working for first time EVER - no reason oher than atmospheric condtions etc I guess.

However, and this probably should have been question no.1 ... what is the best way (for home user without too much professional equipment) to get skew bang on correct ?

I have been using a combination of protractor and mobile phone apps, I think it's 75-80% right but with a large quad LND unit and othing directly aligned to take a reading from it may be more off - but cant be too much it looks about right.

Channel 4 are currently shifting their SD channels between transponders a lot at the moment while they transition to DVB-S2. Unfortunately, it's going to get harder to receive them once the transfers are complete as the 8PSK FEC 3/4 used will need approx an extra 1.4dB to lock.

Moving from DVB-S QPSK 5/6 to DVB-S2 8PSK 3/4 needs 2.8db more to lock. (7.9 - 5.1 = 2.8) hxxps://wiki.batc.org.uk/The_Effect_of_FEC

This is obvious here in Finland. Currently 10714H works 24h with 3m or even with 2.4m.

But 3m is not enough for 2E 8PSK 3/4. Signal is currently around 8db/lock, but you can't really watch when margin is zero. Only hope here is winter (or larger dish)

That's odd, Lyngsat lists DVB-S QPSK 5/6 as needing 6.5dB.

But yeah, it's not good news for fringe reception.

Nice to hear you still have had some reception in Finland. I lost the UK spot a long time ago after Astra 2D shut down using my "tiny" 1.8m dish in Helsinki.

To get the best out of the last mm in all matters of adjustments, incredibly useful to have a phone app (on enigma box + wifi).
See 28e levels in south france

krkadoni app, available in playstore

OK so I think I need some help from the guys that know far more than me please....

Firstly as previously stated I've never been able to get a working 4Seven channel nor any of Dave, Yesterday or W (Drama), and as mentioned 4Seven has started working over the last few months (great!)

and checking with the new app (old app but new to me ;-) ) have the signal strength etc looks adequate on 4Seven (see image).

My query comes for the other Channels ; Dave, Yesterday and W - for each of those I seem to have good signal too - however my main satellite receiver (Freesat - by Arris ?) just says no signal received for all of these, a new thing for me (prob just not noticed before) is that when using my Enigma box it shows these channels as being encrypted (little padlock icon - ie like Sky channels etc) but they should be in the clear

ANyone seen something like this before and can advise what (if anything I can do)?

It now seems I can get all Astr 28.2 channels apart from this set;
Astra 2E UK12129 VDave, Drama, YESTERDAYDVB-S QPSK
27500 5/6
1529 MHz H

Any ideas ? thanks

Your screenshots show the HD versions of U&Dave and U&W, they are encrypted and on a different transponder and beam to the FTA SD versions.

schoolboy error on my part but didnt realise there are encrypted and unencrytped streams. I will manually try to add the correct stream to the Enigma,

thanks

The SD versions are on the UK beam, from information I've seen, whereas the HD, encrypted, versions are on the European beam, for obvious, financial, reasons, as film, and television, producers, demand more money, if you show their programs, outside the UK.
