what invacom lnb are you using is it the quad as these have been reported to be more sensitive on signals and the feedhorn could very well be the issue.

you say your mate has an engineering shop, can you not machine one of these larger feedhorns n give that a go ?

I could get a larger feedhorn machined up probly not a problem, but channel hopper seems to be the man on large dishes (rolfs words :p) and he seems to think it may not help?

its an invacom twin lnb, it was performing good on my 1.8M.

I will give this dish as much attention as I can until early septemberl, must be a reason its not performing properly!

Nah, the increased number of rings may help where the dish is out of shape, but yours isn't
.
This is more about the main assembly being at fault, either one of the panels is deaf (distortion within the metal reflector inside) or the feed itself isn't where it should be.

Once Rolf comes online I'll have a chat with him, see what he has eliminated from the equation.

Could you explain that further?

I have contacted channel master directly for a feedhorn recommended for this dish, I am waiting for an email back.

You might be waiting some time, they went to the wall four years ago.

Remember what I said about that adjustable feed yesterday and how badly it seemed to perform compared to a regular one. Anyway I got a feedhorn today to replace the one I used yesterday and now they have changed the design so now I can't vouch for the new one as I have not tried one in anger yet. Anyway the first 4 pictures are the new one and the last 2 pictures are the old style one that I no longer have. The old one is slightly larger diameter and the scalar rings are better finished (nice radius with no sharp edges). Gary you might find out some good info if you were to contact Iceman and ask him about the Cyprus style feedhorn.

No it's not. Yours has a screw thread and a smaller bore. Also the rings are different. These are thicker.

Hmmm... Speaking to iceman, he thinks there is serious issues for this dish to under perform this way.

So monday it all comes down.

I get my mount extended by 30cm (not needed but for own piece of mind to know its clearing obstacals.

Petals un bolted, bolted back together again and re strung, this time with some thinner string to get it more acurate.

Then work with Rolf and hopefully Channel Hopper to see if the dish can perform as it should.

Channel Hopper said it could have a deaf pannel, not exactly sure what that means yet.

Something really strange is happening with the dish though, it locks 28.2E, then you move the dish abour 4 degrees west and its locked 28.2E again! so something is not right.

The dish is on 16E for now, overkill i know lol. But this weekend I will use tring and viasat for the footy and start again monday

Ah well thats what these big dishes are all about - trial and error to get the best out of them.

But its better than any soap opera story line :D

Would love to know what that means too, and what causes it.

Even stranger though, 28E from 2 positions, are you sure it actually is?

If one of the panels was 4 degrees out from the other 3, it would be very noticeable.

yeh as it was pulling channels from 28.2e in the positions. so strange, me and rolf was confused!

I can only imagine a deaf panel means the panel is not receiving signal or something of the likes

If you are receiving 28E in 2 positions then this says to me at least one warped panel. Take it apart and check them against each other. Make a template of one and compare to the others. String the dish with fishing line. If you believe all the petals to be the same then take great care tightening them. Again a template can help to get the right curve between petals. Try using a washer and rub it over the joint to make sure they align spot on. Has anyone checked what the focal length of this dish should be and are you close to it?
I have found with 2.4 offset dishes that they may "open" over time - Think of the dish lying on its front for a long time and it flattens itself to the ground. It then becomes a slab rather than a dish. Try pulling the edges together with steel cables and turnbuckles (dont over do it as could make it worse). If you pull a dish using this method then the signal may get weaker but the dish become more true (if that makes sense) and then it needs to be realigned to get the best out of the dish.
One other thought is I know your main concern is 3pm games. Forget what the signal is like at 10 am as never gonna affect you. Try and make comparisons at the same time of day.

Just a few thoughts to help you on your way.

That's what happened with the Prodeline 3.7m dish. I think there is a link further back in this thread.
