U are lucky and I have a Channel master 1.8m

A dish that size needs setting up by someone who knows exactly what they are doing with big dishes, and knows how to use a meter.

Remember that signal strength meters on receivers are really meaningless. Change the receiver hooked up to a particular dish and tune the same channel & you will get different readings. Try a third receiver and you will get different readings again

The meters should only be used as a guide to how that receiver is performing.

Not at all - Ive installed dishes dozens of times (both permanently and temporary lashups) just using a receiver and an old tv propped up on a workmate in the garden.

Just dont get hung up on in the sort of scenario where "Mr Smith is getting 60% signal on a 1m dish and Im only getting 52% on my 1.8m dish". The comparison is meaningless - as different receiver makes and models all give different readings..

However the biggest dish Ive ever tinkered with is a 1m - bigger dishes have narrower acceptance angles and a 1.8m dish will be very difficult to set up accurately for weak signals without a proper meter

This has been tried in dublin by a couple of lads i know personally with poor results. These guys got a dish 1.8 over from the uk just to discover poor results on the nordic beam.

Im not 100% sure it was just on loan to see the results, but i do think it was a 1.8 but i know they werent hitting the nordic beam enough to warrant success because we were all waiting for results of the test to see will we start buying viasat and it hasent happened

Right these iPhones are a nightmare to text, Steve was getting the Nordic beam on a 1.8m cm dish while using a satellite meter to tune it in! Does that make sense

Whilst I wish you well with your quest for the Nordic beam, just because a chap a few miles away gets a particular signal it doesn't mean you will definitely get it as well.

In extreme fringe reception reception can vary wildly over a few miles with "hotspots" and "coldspots" These are caused by minute imperfections in the transmission dish.
