Official Race Classification| Full Story

The rain soaked streets of Monte Carlo prompted an action packed grand prix, with Lewis Hamilton not only winning but also seeing main rival Kimi Raikkonen failing to score a single point.

Hamilton’s afternoon started well, overtaking Raikkonen at the start, before a brush with disaster, and a barrier on lap 6, proved to be the turning point which would ironically hand Lewis victory.

Early leader Felipe Massa misjudged a braking point, and allowed Robert Kubica to take the lead in the early stages, but Kubica pitted earlier and Massa was back in the lead by lap 26. Following was a resurgent Hamilton, who took the lead when Massa visited the pit 13 laps later.

And Raikkonen? A stop-and-go penalty and a replaced nosecone after going askew at St Devote already meant the Finn would do extremely well to get on to the podium. Further misfortune would befall the Finn.

Hamilton built a considerable lead as the race went on. The early visit to the pits had allowed the Brit to refuel heavily and take advantage of the need for others to pit later. Hamilton had a hand on the trophy now, and only a mistake would deny him.

Felipe Massa, who started the race on pole, ended in 3rd as the 2-stop strategy allowed Kubica to go ahead for 2nd during the Brazilian’s second visit to the pits.

Raikkonen’s race had a much more dramatic, yet fruitless end. The retirement of Nico Rosberg towards the closing stages of the race, which saw Rosberg’s Williams scatter debris across the circuit after a collision with the barriers, meant that Raikkonen was racing Force India driver Adrian Sutil for 4th.

Sutil, through luck and incredible racing, was on to score big for Force India. But no. BANG! Raikkonen, exiting the tunnel, braked far too late and slammed into the back of the German. No points for Kimi, and a boulevard of broken dreams for Sutil. The sport, perhaps, is at moments too cruel.

Webber, Vettel, Barrichello and Nakajima scored points from 4th in that order, while the final points paying position went to Heikki Kovalainen. Kova, like fellow Finn Kimi, had a rather too eventful afternoon – stalling before the start and so forced to start in the pits, and surviving a coming together with Jenson Button.

Drivers’ Championship | Constructors’ Championship

Lewis is back in the driving seat with a 3pt advantage over Kimi, but Massa and Kubica are also both within 6pts of the leader. Ferrari still lead the rest, but McLaren are closing in with the Hamilton win and BMW fall to 3rd but only trail the McL by a point.

SupaLiga 2008

Plenty of movement below Team Oily, but the top 4 remain as they were, and F1 Aberdeen increase the margin over Dynamo.

Scoring big are Linhas with 93, moving up a massive 4 places to 12th. Having started 2 races late, it would not be too much of a compliment to suggest that Linhas would have been a challenger for the league had he started on time. And with two-thirds of the season to go, he can not be discounted entirely either.

Also hitting the 90’s are Tom34 and the Creatures, now 7th and 8th respectively.

Rolfw’s Rubbers hit a new low with 24pts and bottom of SupaLiga.

Norm in the Pure FF1 Cup > 18th now in the Cup, the play-offs look like a real possibility if this form continues.

Official Qualifying Result

While the football European Championship got underway in Switzerland, the F1 World Championship continued in Canada with qualifying in Montreal, and Lewis Hamilton was the 'man of the match' by taking pole with a brilliant lap on a unpredictable street circuit.

Kimi Raikkonen was early into the attack on the final moments of Q3, but the signs were not good for the Finn. The Ferraris were struggling all afternoon, and Felipe Massa could only qualify in 6th.

Raikkonen's final lap was tidy, but ultimately not enough - 2nd across the line. Following closely behind was Robert Kubica, who just seconds later not only set a fast time, but the fastest time! The Pole was sitting on pole, knocking Hamilton to 2nd. However, the Brit was on his, and the day's, final hot lap.

Slower than Kubica on sector 1, Hamilton was up on Kubica after s2, and had to nail s3 to take top spot. And that he did. Hamilton heads the grid later today, qualifying over half a second in front Kubica.

The Hamilton-Kubica duel leaves Raikkonen in 3rd, and sharing the second row with Fernando Alonso. FA's strong performance must be accredited to his ability in tough conditions - the stewards had to sweep parts of the track before Q2 and Q3. The conditions didn't improve, however, with tyre marbles in evidence has many drivers struggled to stay on-line. Jarno Trulli span on 3 seperate occasions, and even Alonso himself went off at the first corner.

Nico Rosberg is back on form; 6th on the grid in Monaco and 5th in Montreal suggests bad showings in Spain and Turkey are a blip. On row 4 are Heikki Kovalainen and Nick Heidfeld, and also in the top 9 are Rubens Barrichello and Mark Webber in 9th and 10th respectively. Webber, like Red Bull teammate David Coulthard in Monaco, didn't have a chance to compete in Q3 due to an incident at the end of Q2.

David Coulthard is 13th, while Jenson Button (19th) couldn't get out of Q3 with gearbox problems.

Woohoo - Ive rocketed back up the listings into 6th!

And doesnt a fortnight make a difference in F1. Last race Hamilton was a hero, this time he was a zero after ramming a stationary Ferrari sitting at the end of the pit lane:-rofl2

SupaLiga 2008

(Full table available in attachment)

The dramatic events in Montreal had a similiar affect in SupaLiga, with the highest score of the weekend coming from outside the now establish top 4, in the shape of ScotBordersF1.

113 was the magic number of Analoguesat, and sees the Scots up 4 places to 6th. Needless to say, it was also the highest score yet this season. They also take leadership of the Asia & Americas Cup away from Team Oily, and won't be challenged on this front until the night race in Singapore.

The top 4 are as they were, with F1 Aberdeen adding to their advantage over Auto-Dynamo. Creatures are now in 5th after going up 3 places - the first time they've been in the top 5 since last season when they finished 2nd.

Also making major progress are Non PC Racing, now in 11th from 15th, but hiting hard times are Honda-Williams (10th) and Slowhand Racing (14th).

Norm in the Pure FF1 Cup > Remaining in the top 32, but lingering in 26th and only 6 pts in the play-off zone.

Official Qualifying Result

Kimi Raikkonen took pole, with Ferrari teammate Felipe Massa alongside him on the first row of the grid, in a qualifying afternoon that lacked a little in excitement with the knowledge that Lewis Hamilton could not challenge for top spot.

As punishement for the pit lane incident in Canada, Lewis Hamilton knew he would be docked 10 grid slot, so McLaren choose to heavily fuel LH. Hamilton battled though, nearly going off track in Q3. Despite that, Lewis qualified in 3rd - 13th on the grid, then.

The greatest benefactor of Hamilton's enforced demotion is Fernando Alonso, now 3rd on the grid. The ex-champion continued his good weekend so far, including 1st in 2nd Friday practice, and perhaps he may yet taste victory in the Renault this season. Sharing the 2nd row with Alonso is Jarno Trulli.

Canadian GP winner, and Drivers' Championship leader, Robert Kubica will start just behind 5th on-the-grid Heikki Kovalainen. Behind them is an all-Red Bull row of Webber in 7th and Coulthard in 8th. Timo Glock and the under pressure Nelso Piquet Jnr. start in 9th and 10th respectively.

Official Race Classification | Full Story

Ferrari look strong again with Felipe Massa leading the Maranello outfit to a 1-2 finish in the middle of France in the last Grand Prix at Magny-Cours.

Already occupying the entire front row, this was a race that Ferrari were almost duty-bound to win, and the reds duly obliged… but the winner was not the pole sitter, Kimi Raikkonen.

Leading the race until halfway, Kimi’s luck was to run out prematurely once again as his exhaust broke away from the Finn’s car, causing a significant loss of power. It was not long until Massa overtook his colleague, and the worry was that 3rd place Jarno Trulli might catch up with Kimi.

However, these fears were unfounded as Trulli couldn’t maintain his pace and would eventually be dragged into a struggle to keep his own podium place. Heikki Kovalainen was biting at every turn in the final laps of the race, but Trulli pulled out a brilliant end-of-race performance to take home a top-3 finish for Toyota.

Earlier in that same battle, Robert Kubica looked like he might have a say in where the last podium spot would go, but the poor BMW car of this weekend meant Kubica fell away and ended in 5th. Well behind him was Mark Webber in 6th.

Taking the final points were Renault duo Nelson Piquet Jnr and Fernando Alonso, 7th and 8th respectively.

Alonso had a more eventful race than Piquet, going as high as 5th during the shakedown of pit periods, and also holding up old adversary Lewis Hamilton.

Hamilton failed to score at all. Having to start 13th on the grid meant it would need a miracle/rain for LH to have merely a chance of victory, even get on the podium, but when he cut the chicane to overtake Sebastian Vettel in the opening lap, and consequently handed a drive-through penalty, it was game over. David Coulthard finished in 9th, one place ahead of Hamilton.

Drivers’ Championship | Constructors’ Championship

Another race, another championship leader. Felipe Massa is top the world for the moment, 2pts over Robert Kubica, and 5pts beyond Kimi. Hamilton is 10pts away in 4th.

Ferrari have a commanding lead over BMW Sauber. McLaren are some way off challenging.

SupaLiga 2008

F1 Aberdeen continue at the top, but have their lead cut by Auto-Dynamo. The massive score of 112pts this afternoon is only second this season to ScotBordersF1’s top score of 113pts achieved in the last race in Canada. Dynamo now hold the lead in the chase for the European Cup.

There weren’t any big movers after this race, Topper being the exception by going up 2 places to 13th in the league, his highest placing since Bahrain.

Oily and Analoguesat will probably be happiest with their weekends, as they both go up 1 in the top 5, Oily to 3rd and Ana to 5th. The Scots have not enjoyed such lofty surroundings since topping the table in Aus.

Norm in the Pure FF1 Cup > Despite still outperforming most in SupaLiga, the standards are even higher in the PFF1 Cup, and SupaAberdeen felt the pressure today, dropping to 38th with only 83pts!

Official Qualifying Result

It is the mid-point of the season, and the championship has arrived at Silverstone.

The man in the spotlight of the home crowd was McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton, but Hamilton couldn't deliver this afternoon. Topping qualifying session 2, all was looking good for the Brit until he entered into the business end of Q3.

He went wide at Priory and rode the dirt, spoiling one of his flying laps. His second attempt had been compromised by this, and so he was unable to overhaul Kimi Raikkonen's provisional pole time.

Ferrari take pole again? No, not this time.

Kovalainen was coming around and was sure to take pole, blasting away all previous sector times. But that was not the whole story, as before Kova could be seen coming through Woodcote to take top spot, the car of Mark Webber appeared as if by magic to steal 2nd spot on the grid from Kimi!

The top 2 in the Drivers' Championship, Felipe Massa and Robert Kubica, were conspicuous in their absence from the fight for pole. Kubica was prevented from setting a time in Q3 due to mechnical problems in the pits, while Massa was perhaps dealt a harsher blow - he set a time, but a wheel nut stopped him for going out for the all-important 2nd flying run. Massa is 9th, Kubica in 10th.

Kubica's Q3 no-show allowed teammate Nick Heidfeld to finally outqualify him for the first time this season by going 5th. Behind Heidfeld is the Renault duo of Alonso (6th) and Piquet (7th), and qualifying in 8th was Sebastian Vettel - impressive considering Sebastien Bourdais in the partner Toro Rosso sits in 13th.

Hamilton was not the only Brit to have a bad day on home soil. David Coulthard, racing in his final British GP after announcing his retiring at season's end earlier this week, only just missed out on a place in Q3 in 11th, and Jenson Button's 17th is no surprise in the horrible Honda.

Well congratulations must go the Lewis Hamilton for an an outstanding drive, however my season in Fantasy F1 is all but over now, I swapped Jenson Button for too many DNFs for Seb Vettel who has been showing a lot of promise in the new Torro Rosso and retained David Coulthard. What happens, first lap David takes out himself and Vettel, Ferrari had a miserable race and basically I'll be surpised if I have more than 6 points for this race.....
