Once a brake problem slowed McLaren's Lewis Hamilton, Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel had no competition in Sunday evening's inaugural day/night Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.A brilliant win cemented his second place in the drivers' world championship behind Brawn GP's Jenson Button, who enlivened the end of the race with a superb challenge to second-placed Red Bull of Mark Webber in the closing stages...

Introducing the SupaLiga stars...

attachment.php

NormF1 Aberdeen
Total: 2373pts, Best GPs: Monaco and European, both 165pts
Qualified for 2010 PFF1 Champions League

The first half of the season for F1 Aberdeen was decidedly average, and for a long time the 2007 champions were stuck in 9th place. The second half of the season, however, is a testament to the sheer mastery of Norm and a demonstration of why he deservedly becomes the first manager to win the F1 SupaLiga title for a second time. From Germany onwards, F1 Aberdeen’s rise up the standings was unstoppable, including 4 top scores and the 9th best score at Valencia across the whole of PFF1. Winning the European Cup confirmed Norm’s credentials as the man to beat, and when the Scot went up to 1st at Singapore, he held all the cards. The stellar performance in Japan, 156pts, ultimately extinguished my Auto-Dynamo team’s hopes of reclaiming top stop. Norm continues to be the standard bearer for others to follow.

Salty25Auto-Dynamo
Total: 2323, Best GP: Spain, 175pts (Joint highest ever race score)
Qualified for 2010 PFF1 Cup

As one of the earliest ‘all-Brawn’ teams in the middle of the scandal which rocked PFF1 during the first half of the season, Auto-Dynamo reaped great rewards, including the joint highest score ever achieved in F1 SupaLiga – 175pts in Spain, also achieved by kleefarr’s Honda-Williams in Spain and Daz’s BTTR in Australia. However, it would not be until Germany that I managed to get onto the top step. Except for a blip at the infamous Belgian GP, Dynamo stayed on top for the remainder of the European season, but my form was waiving and when the F1 circus went to the nightlights of Singapore, disaster struck – 109pts was nowhere near enough to prevent F1 Aberdeen from taking the lead for the first time. A big performance was required in Japan to keep the fight for the league alive. However, my hopes disappeared over the horizon in the land of the rising sun, as Norm’s barnstorming weekend sealed the deal. An opportunity squandered for your league secretary.

attachment.php

DazdazdazzyBTTR (Better Than The Rest)
Total: 2290, Best GP: Australia, 175pts (Joint highest ever race score)
Qualified for 2010 PFF1 Cup

The newcomer set the league on fire, much like Brawn GP, by setting the best ever score at the first race of the season. But that great start was not followed up by more excellence as BTTR as 122pt in Malaysia saw a drop to 3rd in the rankings, which is where they stayed despite getting the top score in China and 174pts in Spain. In fact, things got worse in Monaco, dropping to 5th in the principality. Thankfully for Daz, that was the lowest they fall – indeed, he is the only manager to have not place lower than 5th all season. Performances improved and within two race BTTR were back on top. But they fall behind my Dynamos, and although they briefly retook 1st in Belgium, a sustained challenge for the crown never materialised. Dropping to 3rd in Italy, Daz faced a new challenge in the shape of the dynamic duo of Oily and Topper. On to the final race in Abu Dhabi – the trio were separated by 9pts with BTTR heading the group. A big performance was needed, nothing else would do. Result? The Tossers with 131pts were nowhere to be seen. So it was a head-to-head: BTTR 150-158 Team Oily... BTTR take 3rd place by a SINGLE POINT!!! As ever, newcomers always have a chance in SupaLiga.

Honourable mentions also go to kleefarr, who secured the Americas & Asia Cup as well as that joint highest ever score, as well as leading the league for three races (Spain, Monaco and Turkey). bite and his Superkomanda team also impressed, quietly working away to finish in 8th, while 10th for rolfw represents a massive improvement for Burnin’ Rubber on their 2008 showing. Despite ending the season in 9th, misterminibus was the early pacesetter, leading the league during the early stages (Malaysia, China and Bahrain).

As ever, it’s been a real pleasure following (and nearly winning!) F1 SupaLiga, this year has been the best yet, thank you all! Bring on 2010!

Unfortunately yes, last season you finished 6th.

Hopefully I continue along my pattern:
2007 - 4th
2008 - 3rd
2009 - 2nd
2010 - ?

Also from me, a big thanks to Salty for his efforts both in organising and making sure an interest is maintained in the league throughout the season.

As for me - I don't know whether to retire or join Ferrari!

I think you'll have to start selecting your team blindfolded, Norm :D Anyway, you've never actually defended a SupaLiga title.....

I should, of course, also say a big thank to Maverick, the owner and 'preseidente' of PFF1, whose tireless work makes the game what it is - fantastic!

Looser is meant to be ironic in this instance, I presume.

Really stylish by Toyota - let the team carry on developing a car for '10, give a young driver like Kobayahsi a chance and what seemed an almost certain race seat, and then pull the rug from under their feet at the end. Hell, it wasn't but a matter of weeks ago that they were in talks with Kimi Raikkonen.

To be honest, although I have not yet read any article about it, I can to a large degree sympathise with Toyota and any other teams on this predicament. The whole arguments that took place at the beginning of the season signing the new accords etc were designed to reduce overall costs, now we have Bernie telling them that next year there will be 20 races 4 more than 2008 and 3 more than 2009.

_http://msn.planetf1.com/story/0,18954,3213_5671248,00.html

It is all Bernies fault once again, come on Bernie time to retire gracefully
