I get mixed results from passes to the west. Some really bad ones some really good ones
This one is from last night .
NOAA 18 Northbound 23W MEL 22 West LONG 20:32 UTC
I would have expected a terrible scan from so far West instead I got a very good one.
In fact it is so far West that my location is not on it.
EDIT Tell a lie My location is on the right hand edge half way down.Opposite Ireland.:)

One from a little farther West this morning + 1.Still good a little more noise though.I am just off the right hand edge on this one.:)
It looks like on the farther West passes I have a better view. The street runs East West then south.
NOAA 18 Southbound 21W MEL 23W LONG 10:27 UTC.

Included is the last scan of NOAA 15 Northbound 27 W MEL 19 W LONG .19:06 UTC

Not one of my better ones
NOAA 19 Northbound 30W MEL 18 W long.16:30 UTC. The usual interference from the houses from a western scan.Look at all that nasty weather to the west.It will pass us by. I am starting to look forward to the winter.

Something odd happening here.A scan started from NOAA19 6:21.The start of the scan was bad.At the same time the TBS card was blind scanning 9 East.I switched the sat scanner off the scan was better. There are a couple of straight connectors in the antenna cable.I will check them later if I get time.

It is working fine without the sat scanner running.I don't think that it is a cpu problem. The computer is about six years old Intel i5 3470 ivybridge cpu.I would have thought that it would cope with both these programs running.Perhaps the graghics card cannot cope .It is not a problem It just means do not run both at the same time.:)This is the 8:30 NOAA 15 pass.
noaa-15-10090730-mcir-precip.jpg
I started the sat scanner halfway through the 8:48 pass.Same results.

I have not got the sat passes printed out so I do not know the details of this pass apart from it is NOAA18 11:11 GMT

Now that my TBS6925 card has gone belly up.I can manage with one DeskTop computer.I have transfered the WXtoimg software.I notice that I only get the MICR Precip images saved.
Not the HVC T images.I know that Anologuesat has mentioned this in the setup thread. It appears that this is the reason.

(Minimum solar elevation for visible images setting (upgraded versions only) disables the sav-ing of images which make use of visible light sensors on the satellite and where the centre pass solar elevation is less than the setting. The default of 0 specifies that images should be saved regardless of the solar elevation.)
I tried using 0 setting some times it works sometimes it dosn't.That dose not matter too much .I have done a lot of reorganising lately (New computer Desk}I am getting a lot of bad scans.I do not know if this is a bad connection problem Antenna moved because of the winds or just that the satellites are in bad postitions for reception at this time of year.I do get some good scans though.
^^^
That said I have got a near perfect scan from
NOAA18 this morning. 32 E MEL 14 E LONG 7:58
I think that the software processed the HVC t images but did not save them

Lovely image there Ponti. Yeah if the solar illumination levels are too low theres nothing to process on the main channels but it seems to make quite reasonable attempts at making the MICR pics. This far north I lose the HVC images apart from a few hours either side of midday this time of year.

I thought I would have a go, regardless of the kit to hand (see image).

Threw the aerial out of the bathroom window using the USB extension lead to stop the laptop from falling off the windowledge and waited for last pass of Noaa 15 at 16.49. The bathroom faces north east.

Next thing is to find a couple of coathangers, connect it to the grid I have for short wave reception and work out how to terminate the bloody tiny connector on the dongle correctly.20181103_171958.jpg20181103_171901.jpg

Next pass is NOAA 19, around 15.11.

Cutting a couple of appropriate bits of coathanger for the pass, but in reality I'll probably put a bit of cable into the end of probe to match with the wavelength since I have nothing that will connect to the socket on the stick except the existing antenna pictured earlier. I could make a 1/4 or 3/4 length version. (55 / 165 cm)

I'm also trying to decypher the MEL detail on the satellite chart, I assume this is a high pass since the time above horizon is nearly 12 minutes.

Hmm, while on the SDR programme I could definitely see an improvement in signal from the NOAA satellite (around 10dB above the noise, yesterdays was lost in the mire) the resultant image leaves a lot to be desired.20181104_153255.jpg20181104_153029.jpg20181104_151841.jpg

Rats.

Next one to the east is NOAA 18 just after 7pm, again a high elevation , will try then with the modified parameters.

Hmm, tried again with the modified parameters.

Again, good level of signal and this time I could hear the bleep over about 30% of the pass having defaulted to the lappy speakers (though the VBcable still directs from SDR to WXtoImg according to the window). but the processing has not translated to the final map.

Is it possible one cannot listen to the audio from the satellite at the same time as recording for the WXsat software ?20181104_192325.jpg20181104_193607.jpg

Well, even though the audio is correctly routed to WXtoImg from SDR, it does look like the laptop won't allow the sound through the speakers at the same time.

Last pass was at 09.15 from the west, aerial out the bedroom window and, nada.

There was an intermittent signal adjacent at 138MHz but not enough to kill the processing completely.20181105_092527.jpg20181105_092741.jpg

Failed again this morning so I'm going to play with the sdr settings (source configure) before the next path, in about ten minutes .

You seem to be getting the signal ok.Perhaps turning the volume slider in airspy to full will help. You should have green in the bottom right of WXtoimg when recording .I have 74-76% on average

I've only heard one of the passes, and owing nto the speakers being enabled the signal didn't go to the software.

I currently get signals from all over the band, just not the right one, perhaps I broke the stick.
