Somewhere in England (possibly?)!
@william-1 - that was my understanding, but "time will tell".

Citrus like inside? then I suspect they are citrus japonica otherwise known as cumquats. My mum used to have a small bush in her garden

Apparently not. After a week of slow ripening until the outer covering is orange all over , I've cut it open and found the interior is much like a passion fruit, pips and flesh, but in deep red (though it has a similar sweet sharp taste, but not as slimy in texture).

I'll have a search after dinner to nail down the variety.

I have never heard of that fruit, no doubt brought over by one of the many South American illegals to have infiltrated our shores using a false Spanish EU ID cards:eek:

Unlikely. Since I collected it not far from the RHS grounds of Wisley, there is a reasonable chance one of the seeds was collected by a bird partial to the fruit, to be deposited on the land a few years ago.

Lovely plumage btw.

Yes looks like a space station..... any spare seeds going?
Do you mean the passion flower? I have one (possibly more self sets alongside) some 25 to 30 years old covering the west wall of my house up to a height of 25 to 30 feet and now growing up the TV aerial mast. I have just checked and there is still fruit on it - it was still flowering a month ago. If you want I could send some to you.

Whilst I have eaten the contents (the fruit was smaller than a quail's egg), there is one seed kept back in the fridge, which I was going to plant once I know the best soil composition.

I've had a Passiflora growing up a south-facing wall for 30-odd years. Only yesterday I performed its annual cull. Necessary because every year it spreads rapidly, its tendrils find their way over next door's extension, behind their side of the fence, even trying to get into the open kitchen window.

I only trim it before a major cutback after making sure there are no butterfly pupae on the leaves, and the bees etc. have had their fill in the autumn.

Its roots travel a surprising distance around my garden. I find plants coming up in the lawn and flower beds many, many yards away. I haven't the heart to completely remove it - its flowers are quite spectacular - and I doubt anyway that I could banish it completely without major surgery on the surrounding garden.

Having seen the complexity of the flowers, I'm going to try to cultivate a plant from what I have here, and might try some seeds from a supermarket fruit if I see them, though it is probably easier if I return to site and take some cuttings.

Went for a walk around Liverpool Castle, which is nowhere near Liverpool BTW, Horwich and Adlington are probably the nearest places, but most people will recognize what you can see from the castle which is Winter Hill and Rivington Pike, where there were shed loads of walkers. The reason I was posting was that near the castle a line of trees is so covered in thick moss, fern seeds have germinated in the moss producing a very unusual effect. Of course, there was the usual robin prepared to pose for a snapshot along with a red squirrel

I went back to site yesterday and grabbed two more fruits (plus one smashed one on the ground).

If you are still in need I can post some out to you, though they are definitely over ripe and will most likely turn a darker colour in transit.

Regards

CH

We had a walk around yet another reservoir yesterday although I never even knew of this one even existed, Jumbles Reservoir within Jumbles Country Park just South of Edgeworth Reservoir.
