You'll probably draw a blank with the one on the post Martin, too exposed to the sun. The tree mounted ones may be OK, but probably only one will get used, as apparently Bluetits won't nest next to another pair.

Thank you Rolf, I will reposition the one on the post, I have planted creepers there but it will be late summer when its covered and that's if they grow, the one on the shed is south facing so I best move that one as well, many thanks :)

Yes, my nest box on the rear of the house is often used during really cold weather, keep meaning to put a camera in it.:)

Well I best leave the boxes for a few days, I cant believe the interest in them, they are already checking them out, this one I was going to move appears to have the most interest with a pair of blue tits :)

I don't know Martin...is it a bit like house buyers?....you get lots of viewings but hardly any of them are interested in moving in??

I've had several blackbirds and wood pigeons make nests in the pyracantha bush next to our front door, even to the point of one pair of pigeons producing young. But they've all ultimately abandoned the nest due to too much disturbance.

My nest box on the rear wall has had several occupants, but to my knowledge has only produced one successful clutch, possibly because it's close to the very busy feeders and the nesting birds get disturbed too frequently. think I'll move it today to the flank wall.

It will probably be the same for me Rolf, I still have a fair bit of work to do on the back garden in the next few months, greenhouse to buy and install summer house to make and install, and last but not least my dish, also there is not much cover, I have things in place but its going to be a few years before they get established,

Time will tell, if I just got one pair breeding I would be happy, but if not I will try again next year when its just a case of weeding and enjoying my garden with little disturbance for our feathered friends :).

I'm currently up in the north of Finland and caught a brief 10 minute display of northern lights last night before I went to bed. Rather conveniently it was a few minutes after the street lights went out for the night. Some council money saving schemes have their advantages!

Yep, beautiful, think we need a week every year when all street lighting is turned off after 9 at night, as the light polution here is extreme.

Come to Buckinghamshire, they've just turned them off completely to save money!

It sure is - most people whizz past them going north on the M6 from Kendal to Penrith. Thankfully!
