@RimaNTSS
Great project :-clap- absolutely no way that I could get within a "million miles":(!
OTOH, any more suggestions/comments on possible compressors?
(BTW- already looked at Machine Mart, and they look too pricey for what I can persuade myself that I can afford - and then only if can flog a lotof redundant photogear)
Axminster?

Also what are you planning to use it for, maybe we can advise what to get :)

@jeallen01 al Actually, right behind the drill I have placed no-name compressor (tank is ~30 liters), and, TBH, it fully satisfy my needs by now. I can adjust pressure in tires and can paint anything without any problems. Of course, if you plan to use powerful air-driven tools and sand-blasting chamber than you maybe need something special. Like @RustySpoons says, all depends what are you going to do with your compressor.

Axminster is a nice little town, my front room carpet is a 100% wool and 50+ years old.

It came from the factory in Axminster. I do know he paid a fair bit for it. (The carpet)

Somewhere in England (possibly?)!
What would I want to do with a compressor? Probably, for a start, a little basic car panel and fence panel spraying, sheet metal cutting, sand &/or soda (if possible, which I rather doubt!) blasting of areas of rusty metal, removing car wheel nuts.

Why? Because, amongst other things, I may decide I want to do some restoration of an oldish car (thought about that - and a Reliant Scimitar GTE "would be nice" but the chassis certainly can corrode!).

BTW, I think I have a self-imposed limit of around £200/€250 for the compressor, extension hose (need about 5-10m of "straight" hose from the only place I can currently locate the compressor to where I would need to use it), oil trap (etc.), hose adaptors, and a few other bits. Think I can get most of that from SGS within the "price limit", but not sure about other suppliers (having already ruled out Lidl & Aldi because of the likely poor aftersales support and spares).

I rather doubt that the tools that Axminster Tools sell do actually come from Axminster! :D

Anything that involves air tools you will need a decent size compressor. Also the air line needs to be quite beefy.
Those ones in Aldi/Lidl are only any good for inflating tyres, blowing things out and a bit of occasional painting.
The lower end Machinemart will be the same.
I'd have a look at used on eBay/local rag/gumtree, you might get something decent for that money.

Just had a look at the Axminster Tools website - cheapest compressor is over £300, and so out of contention.

If anyone is looking for a really decent rechargeable work light have a look at this:
eBay:654754586114

Identical to the £40 Duratite version, takes a couple of weeks from China but it's incredible for £8, going to order a couple more.
My friend is a mobile mechanic and he's ordered 10 of them!

Lidl

- W.r.t. the broken knobs on the Bench Press Drill: in this morning's post I got a letter from Lidl apologising about the breakage and saying that their supply chain people are taking the matter up with the OEM, Plus a £5 voucher for "compensation" - and just about covers the cost of the round ones that I bought as replacements.
- After taking SWMBO to her hairdressing appointment this morning, I dropped into our large Lidl and had a look around. Saw that they are stocking some digital vernier micrometers for about £10 again (couldn't then find them on the website, but that sometimes happens) - I bought one of those about 4-5 years ago and it's very useful and still going strong on the original battery. OTOH, these are about the same price as on ebay etc.

Yes but you have the luxury of testing them in store to get a good pair ;)

Just threw a quick vid up on YouTube, found them on Amazon for about £10 with UK shipping it seems.
Going to grab a couple more.

One useful thing I found out is if it goes flat you can power it up on a USB Mains charger or Powerbank.

Now back in Aldithis week :D
Interesting :) looks like a plastic dish this year, I wonder if it's got a metal layer inside or whether it's just painted with a metallic coating. The old Lidl Comag had a coating, I'll have to check this out :)

Lidl are doing power tools with the shared battery system from this Monday, and the week after its camping week, no idea if there will be a dish kit though.

My main "problem" with the Lidl (and Aldi) shared 20V battery system is the on-going supply of replacement batteries, should you need them later on.

If anyone has a chance, please take a look at the rating labels on those tools and see if you can identify the tool OEM(s) - then, maybe, we can find out if those suppliers offer similar tools and batteries under their own brand names, and IF the same batteries will fit the Lidl/Aldi tools.

Very, very good point mate, this go's for something I said to a workmate as well, if Dewault ect were all for their customers they would have made 18V lithium Ion battery batteries that worked for the existing NiCad drills the fly f#*kers.

It's not just Dewalt - all of the tool suppliers do the same sort of thing (certainly Bosch do) - but the important thing is that either those suppliers still supply appropriate batteries for well-after tools that are replaced by new types, or/and that knock-off clones are available from other sources. That's sometimes true for large brand name tools with a long sales history (I have some pretty old B&D 14V drills for which I was able to get half/decent clone replacements a couple of years ago) but rarely true for tools from smaller brand names &/or with shorter sales lives.

Also, you probably stand a better chance of getting of getting both batteries and other spares for the big brands' "pro" tools than for their "consumer" versions because the suppliers want to keep pro users buying their tools "brand loyal" for a long time.

For example, my 10-15 yr old (or even older!) Makita palm sander finally "died" last year after heavy use. On stripping the tool down, I found it was just the switch that had failed, but that it could also use some new brushes, and a replacement for the rubber block around which you wrap the sandpaper or glass paper. Did some searches and found that Makita still supply a virtually identical tool now, and that many of the parts for the new one are just upgraded versions of the old parts and will fit the older machines - and that some of the tool spares suppliers could provide all the bits (and the exploded diagrams!) for me to repair the tool back to nearly "as new" condition. Got the bits and rebuilt the tool, and it now runs "like a train" again - for about 1/3rd the cost of a new sander.
