OK, 40C is a little too warm but I'd still prefer that over a cloudy 20C... Ideal temperature for me is 30-35C as those are the summers I grew up in.

Where a friend of mine lives over in the lone star state, the temperature was about 107f (41c), and where he works was 115f (46c!!), but because of where he is, when the heat reaches a certain point, the humidity drops, so it's not so bad as it sounds, other parts of the US, specifically those places by the sea, the humidity would be vile, and with high temperatures thrown in, it's hardly surprising that one fella in that report said that even breathing hurts, but with very low humidity, that doesn't happen, but still, suffering those temperatures would suck, and can be a killer too...

My car thinks it's +26C outside but I beg to differ. Not toooo bad in the sunshine though - if it wasn't for the pesky wind.

I may have been born and bred in Russia but I moan like a true Brit :D

Its "Gala Day" here - the roads are closed so the knobs who can afford to own horses or can afford to hire one for the day can prance around looking important and wait for the poor people to shout hurray! as they pass. And the pubs are full of the twice a year drunks.....

I CBA with the whole thing so we always head off somewhere for the day and today it was down Liddlesdale to Newcastleton to potter across the moors. And its drizzled on and off all day.

I live in an area of France that is pretty much guaranteed a nice summer. I've been here for 9 years - this is the first summer while I've been here that has been a washout. I have immensely enjoyed listening to my friends and colleagues (largely French and Swiss) whinge about the bad weather. They take it for granted that summer will be hot and sunny and pyschologically they are not prepared when it doesn't turn out that way - now the primary topic of conversation is the weather, much as it is in Blighty. I find it amusing that a few months of rain has such an effect on the national character and makes their outlook much more like it is for people who come from a small, rainy island nestled between Europe and the Atlantic :)

According to Daily Mail.....

British Weather Services expert Jim Dale said: "We're going to hit the magical figure of 90F (32C)."

And according to the Beeb forecast the Sun will put in an appearance between 8 and 9 this evening...... That's nice!

It's currently overcast, windy and damp here in midlands. Maybe he should have stuck with carry On films

I cannot believe we still get authoritative bodies quoting Fahrenheit as principal.

A a devoted Torygraph reader, it irks me that they do the same, perhaps in keeping with the conservative reputation and nature of said organ: I'm 56 years old and struggle to work in Fahrenheit, so who exactly is the intended readership, one wonders?

Muggy and very stormy looking here in t'Repooblic, but that'll be due to the fact I'm about to hang some washing out.

Nobody in the world uses Fahrenheit these days except the Americans but they do everything differently (quarts, ounces, US - not just any - gallons). No idea why. Glad that ice melts at 0 degrees, not 32 in the rest of the world though.

By the way, my under-desk heater is on, 'cos I am freezing...

Fahernheit is for those who wish to live in the pre-victorian wokouse era where rich people did what they wanted and poor people were punished for being poor, so basically everything that those in charge want today...

Anyway, it's apparently set to het up to a whopping 18 degrees (Celsius, goodness knows what that is in old money), already feels warm outside now...

For many of us who were brought up with Imperial measures, in my case more than 20 years solely using them, we often still register temperatures for comparison in Fahrenheit. I remember when the switch happened in the 60s, it was generally known as Centigrade (incorrectly apparently), but most people still used degrees F to compare how hot or cold it was. In fact I still find it much easier to equate people's weight in Stones, something I can visualise.

I agree it's probably time to let it go, but perhaps not so easy for anyone over 70.

Double it and add 30 apparently (therefore 66°F)

I'm just about used to °C rather than °F. I guess living in a metrified country helps. However, I still have problems with metres and good old feet and inches and tend to guess and measure by eye in the old measurements and then do a rough conversion in my head. It's the same when I get on the bathroom scales, for some reason it sounds better in pounds and stones rather than kilos....though it's not very often I force myself onto the scales.

ºC -> ºF = x 1.8 + 32

For some reason there is a double standard in the UK. ºC for freezing temps, and ºF for warm ones. Same thing for air traffic, feet for vertical separation and metres for horizontal.

It was ncie and warm today, felt a bit muggy, but still nice enough... :)

And had I had some lumpwood charcoal (I don't use that cheap and nasty briquette crap which is made up of godknowswhat), I'd have cooked some chicken wings, marinated in some Nando's Hot Peri Peri sauce, out there today, but I didn't so I cooked them int' oven and they were delicious...
