Here's an observation re: the GTCombo psu marking which might cause some confusion.
It states 12v Negative on centre pin of power plug when in reality it has 12v Positive outgoing on centre pin.
The marking on the receiver casing socket itself is correct.

What is your point? It is an external PSU which can be changed easily..The Technomates however, are internal and subject to failure, I speak from experience...
I’ve seen some of these boxes with a 1.5amp output which wouldn’t really be suitable for driving a dish. What’s the comparison to Technomate all about.

Is your box attached to a motorised dish. If not could you attach it up to see how it handles one. 1.5amp looks a little lean for driving a motor.

USALS Motor current is generally 350-400mA max (ie When an H TP is targeted) That leaves a little over 1A at 12v to power the rx itself. Surely enough?

No, I don't use them to drive a motor. I have a couple of Research Concepts antenna controllers driving my dishes..

The GTCombo is attached to a motorised Elite Antennas 2.2mtr PF dish but i use a Research Concept RC2000 Dual Axis Controller to drive the dish

Ok but could you possibly hook up the GT Combo to the dish motor just to test its ability to drive the dish East/West and back again. At least I could rule in/out the possible purchase of this unit. Claims are made about receivers being able to handle DISEqC and USALS but many fail the motor test. I’d be happy enough to purchase one if it could do this job.

Somewhere in England (possibly?)!
Personally, I'd replace the supplied PSU anyway, due to (at least!) the somewhat odd mains pin config (and the "China Export" CE mark on it) - "Any old" decent 12V 2A (or higher) PSU should be OK as an upgrade, but may need the co-ax plug replaced by the larger 5.5mm/2.1mm version to fit the inlet on the receiver

Add the LNB current (unless the GTMedia disconnects when moving.

As a reference the Octagon SF8008 comes with a claimed 3A PSU and the Zgemma H9S is 2A. Both can drive the Moteck clone motors and a 1m dish with LNB without issue.

Could the additional processing of 4:2:2 video cause trouble (or perhaps power to keep a USB/flash card recognised) ?

It's early days yet for this receiver and the GTCombo Team are aware of the issues but it's looks like it's possibly choking the processor on high bit rate signals - the pic below really made it struggle to make something out of this HEVC 4:2:2 signal earlier on.
Got to give them a bit of credit for attempting to give a simple operating approach i suppose.
I'm running it on a 3amp psu brick at the moment to see if there's any differences.

I can't i'm afraid, don't use DISEqC or USALS

No worries. I’ve locally made 12v 3amp power supplies here which I use on most of the Asian electronics I have. Looking at the supplied PSU I wouldn’t use it anyway.

Assuming passive cooling, how warm is the box running at the moment. Is it like a pocket warmer yet. The only reason I ask is the odd behaviour these boxes display under load. No doubt you have a few more paces you’d like to put it through before you make a final judgment call.

A reasonable test for a lower bit rate 4:2:2 signal might be the "Al Forat" channel on 10.0E, it is in 4:2:2 with bit rate of 8.9mbps.
It should be less load on the GT Combo?

You're not suggesting that heatsink could be better fudged onto the main processor ?

.. Another weird one,
Firstly, the receiver is running barely luke warm after spending nearly half an hour or so battling with this weird 4:2:2 channel.
The rx10993 V. - 10e. .. reduced..jpg channel info screen shows the 'Movie camera' icon associated with a 4:2:2 transmission but not the text line 'AVC 4:2:2' and is a very choppy picture.

It's a real beauty this Al Forat channel for testing out a receiver.
If a consumer grade receiver can lock this and display a smooth picture to a TV it is performing very well.

It used to be in 4:2:0 for a long time and was a good marker for 10.0E but they changed it to 4:2:2 possibly a year ago.
