Yes mine to go through a v box, but ive also tried without, but not kuch difference on the readings.

Is your lnb the old or newer type?

I've had it a while over 5 years

Hi did you make any skew adjustments, is your lnb a universal type, is the lnb in the middle of the lnh hosing, mine is very close to the back, it wont go back any more, but once the new lnb arrives, ill try it get more out of it.

p.s when making skew adjustments of the LNB how best is this done, to try to get a equal signal of v and h on the same satellite ( 1 west in my case), or skew the lnb on a weak satellite like 7 west,to get the max out of it on the weakest satellite.

Of course it's a universal lnb and I maximize skew on 1 west and the rest of the arc falls into place generally. It's amazing how the tiny amounts of turning improve the signal.

In terms of the lnb in the lnb holder. Trial and error

So i need to try to get a balanced signal on 1 west, between a v and h transponder, i know some of the transponders are very different in signal quality on my dish some are 75% others in the high 90% i guess this is the way to do this LNB skewing.



On lnb placement yes, i guess that is easy, get a weak signal on 1 west, and move the LNB in and out of the LNB holder and get the max signal.


I played a little today i noticed 7 west channels like mbc3 on 7 west, Ive never been able to downloaded these channels, i took the v box away and plugged the cable from the lnb direct into the octagon, and i was surprised these downloaded on to the channel list.

I could view them, but they did keep blocking, but they was not too bad, however once i added the v box again, the blocking on the picture was so bad, its was unwatchable , but without the v box connected, it was a lot better, so i guess the v box is reducing the signal even more.

as ive mentioned, on 1w - get sky news international up, and aim to get around 15-15.5db (fluctuates depending on time of day) - you will need to play with skew to get this DB level - once you're there, then everything else SHOULD fall into place including 7w

you're talking about marginal signal levels on 7w with the vbox added or not, theres no point in trying without the VBOX in the mix, as you need the VBOX to move the motor, your arc seems ok, i think your issue is skew on the central point (1w) or the vertical element of your dish bracket is not 100% vertical so its dropping off on 7w, but unlikely.

in summary aim to get around 15-15.5db on 1w, and then check your 7w .....and 16e

My experience with CM 1.2m & IBU Twin is the LNB should be pushed inwards towards the dish face, not all the way but with about 8mm of the LNB neck poking out the rear of the holder. On a motorised dish the declination may then need to be tweaked.

Regarding skew, Eutelsat satellites have around 3.5° skew offset which means if skew is peaked for 1°W it will be 3.5° out when the dish is moved to 16°E. Astra satellites have around 7° offset.

not much you can do then, if you want a happy medium though across the ARC ? without motorised skew

im happy with signal levels across the arc on my 1.2m and my 1.8m - although i can cheat a little on the 1.8 with additional motorised elevation too - however, that doesnt help skew of course.

Hi, so the new replacement LNB arrived today,the best readings i could get is now set on 1 west sky news, but still gettng the same problems.

16 east
SIC INTERNATIONAL im now getting 55% to 57% 9db reading on the octagon, but still seeing a small amount of ber, between 0 and 99.

1 west
SKY NEWS im now getting 89% to 92% SNR 15db reading on the octagon, with no ber, some channels are wealer than this, but if i peak the dish they improve but then some slightly lower, (i guess this is normal as there is a small difference at the postion they are at)

7 west
I can get AD SPORT 1 HD 49% SNR 8db , but still seeing a small amount of ber, between 0 and 99, but picture seems ok

Dubai racing HD im now getting 41% to 54% SNR 8.75db reading on the octagon, with BER FROM 38 to 100000 picture all over the place with blocking.

I then tweakled the lnb very slightly so i could get AD SPORT HD as it was freezing and blocking before, i tweaked it.

I pushed the dish up, and down, but the readings dropped both times, so it seems the dish is peaked, im getting very good readings on 30 west about 99% 18.00 db , 53 east is good readings of 12. db 75% snr with no ber

But still cant get these channels with no ber, mbc 2 on 7 west 11277 has a small amount of ber of 0 and 50
but mbc 2 on 11559 has a reading of 30% 5.25 db with a picture that is unwatchable, i can see some blocks of a picture, and i can hear some sound, of the broadcast.

The cable is ct100 so im at a lost now, to be honest.

Makes no sense at all. If you're getting 15db on 1w and 18db on 30w then 7w should be peaked also regardless of what's happening to east sats and even then you're getting good readings on 53e. Dish could be warped perhaps, but unlikely being a channel master

Are you sure it's a 1.2m and not a 90cm channel master . On the back has the size in faint emboss

Normal if marginal signal yes. R u sure it's a 1.2m dish and not a 90cm or 1.0m

the thing is - your arc seems good - but your levels are down just enough to co-incide with what a slightly smaller dish may read - such as a 90cm \ 1.0m

im at a loss at this point - nothing further to add really

i agree something is wrong, ive just replaced the v box with my spare, made no difference, got a satellite guy coming tomorrow, to see if he can give any thoughts.

I also notice problems at 21.5 east as well, channel called 2m, dont give a picture either, but i can hear it from time to time, yet another channel on that satellite gives a reading of 70%

He could see some interference on his spectrum analyser on the sic international freg, but no matter what he did, he couldn't get no more from that dish at all.

He did have a thought.

Has the channel master improved over the years with a tweak or anything, this channel master dish is 25 years old, it looks ok, but could ages be a issue, or as i said have Channel Master/Andrews etc changed these in anyway to get more signal.

He also confirmed it is a 1.2 metre dish even measured it for me.


On that freg posted above, no signal here at all.

Going to put the old lnb back on when the weather improves, and have a good play around, only getting 85% signal on sky news 1 west as i write this, but i did say to leave it peaked on 7 west, so going to have a play with the old LNB at a later point
