36E is an odd one. According to footprint maps, there's no way we should be receiving Sub-Saharan beam but I can get at least 1 transponder on my 1.2m Fibo with others also being visible. And the Russian beam - well, that's a first in the UK. We are clearly sat between the two beams here.

So those frequencies are from 36A Russian beam - very surprising, especially as 36B has a longer reach into Europe than 36A.

I spent quite some time, a couple of years back trying for the Russian beams and never even had a flicker of signal before. and had given up looking. i can only think something has changed to enable it to be received here now.

Thanks Martin for trying - and spotting this t.p. signal this morning :)
still locking it here at around 4.5 db

What are your conditions nelson please, ive done no final tweaks yet but last time I looked i was only getting it @2.0/2.5 db, I tested the 0.1 lnb this afternoon and the 0.2 is lots better, my conditions now,

I certainly cant remember any other reports of the Russian beam here in the UK.

There was someone in London trying it on a 3.5m dish a good number of years ago (before 36B was up there) and they did get signal but it was very variable and generally unwatchable.

Though I do recognize that its a good achievement, but all of you are so surprised as if the beam is so very far away.
Its reaching pretty close to UK.

Generally, signals travel better over sea/water, as it doesnt face any hindrances in its path.

People in South India, have caught beams over africa, in India, with big dishes.

Thanks nelson

Well its the same here Alex not a constant lock, but from whats been said and some reading ive done the signal should improve with the correct lnb ?.

Does anyone know where to locate the below LNB in the uk please ?

(The Inverto IDLB-SINR41-H1060-OPP should do instead, covers 11.7...12.75 GHz with our standard 10.6 GHz LO:

Its coming from 36000 miles almost straight up. Sea path isnt going to make much difference for satellite signals (unlike say tv or radio transmitter signals).

Unexpected reception is that unusual I agree, Ive had unlikely reception myself in the past but this really is unusual. (However its also fair to say very few folk here in the UK have very large dishes due to lack of room & strict planning rules)
