Technisat Multytenne (13°| 19.2°| 23.5° | 28.2° E)

1N will move to 19.2° E at earliest in spring 2013. There are afaik 3 launches planned for 28.2°E in 2013, 2014 and 2015. They are renewing their fleet at 28.2°E. You could either call the professional installer today and get a setup installed that is based on today's footprints - or you can wait till 2015 and see what will happen then.

Future (maybe!!): xxxcm dish -> Astra1N->FTA -> BBC !!!
My Location

Good news is that something will ba at 28.2 :)
Bad news, could be that by 2015 mommy will need a 3m dish :-ohcrap!!!!!!!!

Curiosity: why a broadcaster would aim for narrow footprint? Reduced costs or advertising strategies?

There is already one channel listed in PAT, however no PIDs associated with it. NIT again is wrong, FEC is listed as 7/8, but it is 5/6.
The channel number and PMT_PID listed in the PAT come from a TSReader_bug. What is read as SID and PMT_PID is not part of the program_assiation_section. Take a look at transedit's analyzer and you won't see any program ;)

Here the hex dump of pid 0x0000 and the corresponding parsing.

Code:
PAT, Eurobird 1 & Astra 2A/2B/2D @ 28.2°E 11053 H, PID 0

Pietclock I was just wondering what your signal strength is like on the 1N channel 5 bouquet and on the Channel 4 HD channel currently identified as 21200. Thanks

My Satellite Setup
Wintv Nova S2 HD PC card, Quad core PC running DVBViewer on Windows Ultimate. SkyHD+ box.
My Location
Folkestone. Kent. England
Also the Channel labelled "7720" (Channel 5+1 ?) in the channel 5 bouquet has just gone encrypted like the rest.

Possible video tests starting?

It still tunes into my Sky box and is of course viewable. Still showing Colour Bars at this time.

@welshman234: they are all stronger than 2D, but weaker than Eurobird and 2A/2B. However still strong enough so you can get them with a 70cm reflector. Signal quality is excellent on all of them, better than on most Eurobird TPs. For 2D you need 90cm to get an all weather stable signal. I dont know how 1N will behave during rain, as we havent had a drop of rain or even clouds in the sky for four weeks (which is amazing...).
2D signal quality drops rather quickly during rain, however 90cm or more are sufficient for "normal" rainfall, except thunderstorms.

Thanks Pietclock. This mirrors my own experience. The 1N channels are a good 20% stronger on the SNR front compared to 2d. 80% as opposed to 60% We havent had rain here for a while too, but when it hammers down or snows heavily I tend to lose 2d channels. It will be interesting to see how strong 1N is when it rains heavily...

I think the only obstacle that made the operators to distribute the signal to a particular zone was European legislation which prohibits the tv cards to be used only to users of that country. And it's no problems so TV operators as receivers and software companies who are interested to have exclusivity for their products. In fact the conflict is between these devices manufacturers, in addition to the interest of each country to defend its cultural identity. The moment when you have a freedom to subscribe to any European operator regardless of country, then there will be no reception problems. Then footprint will cover all of Europe, including the United Kingdom. That wish all satellite operators: one big footprint for all tv operators. But then conflicts arise between them and so on,so on...Deserve discussion but on a different topic.

Has anyone got any theories as to why it is taking so long for the 1N Channel 4 HD transmission to go live on the Sky and Freesat EPGs ?

There arent any outstanding contractual issues vis a vis Sky are there??? Other than that it might be some tecnhical issue ie their bricking it now cos they know the footprint is pretty wide....rights issues ???

The 1N coverage is much less that the EB1 transmission - especially out to the east.

Well there must be some reason for the delay - the tests have been ongoing for over two weeks :confused

Well it can't be rights issues because if it were the tests would be encrypted.

I have to say the whole rights issue/spot beam saga is a joke. I know at least 100 people, probably more, here in Gran Canaria most of whome are living in small apartments or bungalows where they have no chance of having any sort of "big dish". Very few of them are remotely "tech savvy" or read these forums and yet they are all watching British TV either via VPNs, Slingboxes or online services. It is absolutely ludicrous that all this effort is being put into providing "spot beams" to protect rights (putting aside frequency re-use for now) when the average man in the street can circumvent it without a second thought.

And that one thing guarantees the amount of spotbeams in use can only increase over the next few years.
