Yes both are to close. 11973 is already replicated on the 1N uk beam

ITV want the channels fta so they can go on Freesat. The channels will still be on Sky of course - just not encrypted any longer.

If anyone finds new transponders please can they post all the parameters including: DVB-S or S2, 8PSK or QPSK, frequency, polarisation, symbol rate, and FEC, as this makes things a whole lot easier for anyone that does not have a blind scan receiver.

I agree with this requirement.I have already posted some information of a kind in the previous pages. But perhaps this thread about Astra 1N is rather a kind of chat that many users are involved with information "hot" that it no longer is the time to check and make a full report on information supplied.
As for the Pan-European signal{I can catch only this beam}at this time we have signal on three transponders:

Feed: Data
Channel Data:11008 V,sr.22500,3/4
Typ: Dvb-S2/8PSK

Sat Name:Astra 1N
Pos: 28.2 E
Date: 30.10.2011
Time: 09:30 GMT
S/N:15.0 dB

From time to time the signal analyzer give other values: DVB-S2/16APSK and fec 9/10!

Feed: Data
Channel Data:11167 H,sr.1000,5/6
Typ: Dvb-S/QPSK
Sat Name:Astra 1N
Pos: 28.2 E
Date: 30.10.2011
Time: 09:30 GMT
S/N:15.6 dB
Beam:pan-European

Feed: Data
Channel Data:11185 V,sr.21665,3/5
Typ: Dvb-S2/8psk
Pilot:On

Sat Name:Astra 1N

Did you use the TBS 5980 for the blind scan?

I'm looking for a external USB DVB-S2 receiver for a PC that will work with fringe reception.

Can you recommend the TBS 5980?

Does anyone else have any views on this?

Terry

Yes the 5980 found the signal using Crazyscan and EasyBlindscan. A new driver was released for the device last week that makes it fully compatible with these programs as long as you have all the latest versions of the software. Can't comment on the sensitivity of the tuner for fringe reception as I don't really use it on weaker sats. I bought it for its blind scan capability and CI and it works very well on a decent spec PC. I had to upgrade to a USB 3.0 card as my on-board USB was a bit iffy for HD signals. I know the 5980 isn't a USB 3.0 device but the increased overall spec of the card helped throughput a lot and HD is very smooth now.

All C5 services on 10964H have now gone FTA. :-righton

Reckon the encryption contract must have run until the Month end.

Edit: 7720 still encrypted at the time of writing + encryption flags still set on all channels.

Another signal at 11170 H 1000 DVB-S2 8PSK 3/4. Seems to be silent audio tracks at the moment. I'm accessing my PC remotely so maybe can't hear any audio anyway.

There is.

If it was not available at the time then either you have not yet been a Member long enough or it timed out. I suspect the former.

Please refer such matters to the relevant section here in future.

Thanks, I now have the function - It's just handy to edit a post to add info as I get it rather than make multiple untidy posts.

Label 7701 (encrypted) has just popped up on the Channel 5 cluster - Any ideas what it is?

Edit: It's another Channel 5 - Possibly the one from the BBC transponder???

Unscrambles on a Sky box.

If its C5 then its probably for the region 2 stuff currently carried on 2D.

All 1N C5 regions plus the 5* / 5USA stuff now properly fta - the encoders have been turned off / removed.

7720 C5 +1 is still encoded.

The encryption is actually carried out at the Adaptation stage. Adaptation hubs sit across the Multiplexer output, EPG data together with encryption and labelling is inserted within this stage. Sky control their adaptation remotely and can in fact change any service from encrypted to FTA on the hoof (if they so want to!). In effect it means Sky have total control over broadcasters ASI Transport Stream leaving the Multiplexer and upwards to their uplink Earth Station. Freesat EPG data is generally inserted at Sky Adaptation too, this possibly being regulatory or more from a simplistic point of view that no further 'messing' with the TS is needed prior to it leaving the Multiplexer in to the relevant Telco's cct on it's forward path to the Earth Station.
