Two interesting 1N Spanish reports from the DS forum:

FM Joddle - Have just tried 10964 here in Valencia in Spain and am very happy to report its perfect here - SS 90% this evening and SQ 100% ( the highest readings of anything I have got so far)

Joddle's profile lists a 2.4m PF & a 1.2m PF, and unfortunately doesnt say which one is in use.

FM DavidinSpain - Even further south in Alicante province, 15 km south of Torrevieja. Strong signals on Channel 4 HD and all free to air Five channels. 80% and 100% on a 1.9 dish with 4 users in different houses.
Humax foxsat with second input coming from a 1.4 dish

10965 is coming in loud and clear (Freesat Humax : St 75% Qual 90%) on my 80cm dish 70kms south of Valencia, so I would hope hope Joddles 1.2 or 2.4m dishes are picking it up well! And had no issues in reception 30kms further south with it coming in either on same sized dish.

And from a motorhome site one user posted " just tried new transponders (10965 and 11053) and no probs down here in marbella on oyster 85 dish"

Anybody got a reason to believe these are narrow beams as they look like wide beams to me?

Hi again - As you might suspect with my dish I am getting fatastic signals from 1n. The new Ch5 transponder is coming in at 90 to 95% SS and 100% SQ on the Humax (must take a reading on the Pace as well later and wil post here). If everything went to 1n perhaps I could sell my giant paella dish and use the Tagra 1.2 :) (Might even try connecting it up again to see how it fares!)

To answer Analoguesat - All the posts I have made are using the 2.4M dish which is definitly needed for 24/7 reception of other regular UK reception - espcially horozontals.

I'm still seeing the encryption flag set on these services (with the exception of 7720), can others confirm? I've deleted and re-scanned but still showing as 'Encrypted' although they do open up.

It also looks like they've got DVB subtitles on the 5* and 5USA services (with their +1's), not on any of the C5's though yet.

Hi there, just had a look on the King of Sat site, and noticed today a post has been made of successful reception of 1N in Naples Italy, on a 1.4m (Where previously 2D was not at all possible even on 4m). Aimed at RalphMango, can this be confirmed, if so, I will just have to dig out my 1.4m from the garage and put it up

If they were wider beams they would be receivable on smaller dishes in the canaries for example

hello to all,
the 1 n i am using a sky uk box and a 1 meter dish and it is comming in ok.
but here is the thing.
is this spot beam or the regular beam??
long ago back in 1995 we could pick up bbc1 and 2 with a 90 cm dish no problem.
bbc broke ties with sky and went to astra 2d and then they turned off the main signal and just went with spot beam.
the spot beam is what we have now and we can not get it with a 4 meter dish in naples.
when they switch over to 1 n will the spot beam be active and the other beams be turned off?????
although everyone is hoping there is no word for now.
if you have a 1 meter or bigger for now you will be able to receive it no problem.

And then "perhaps" you could buy another paella dish when everything moves to 2E/F/G in 2013/2014.

ok... currently no one know is you will get 1n in naples. let say you can, astra 2d is to move apperntly sometime next year so you might get the bbc channels.

but... astra 1n is only on temporary mission at 28e, until 2e,f,g come along, these are most liekly to have much more tight spot beams for the uk no one know as nothing has been annoucned. but you should just think about the long term not the short term, your best finding a uk vpn and stream teh stuff form bbc site

Well we `ve had heavy rain here North of Frankfurt and as usual 2d channels take their usual dip in SQ but the 1N channels 4 and 5 and ITV showed little rain fade..... very good in heavy rain in fact with only 3% loss in SQ whereas BBC1 Wales was lost by comparison for 10 mins today at the height of the downpour....well done Dr Death at Astrium!!!!!!!

We will see - no intention of taking down the 2.4 yet anyway as it is pretty much a "built in" feature of my roof due to all the concrete holding it in place. I would only consider moving to the 1.2 if it could get all the freesat channels - not just some. And anyway we do need to see what happens when 1n moves and is replaced - even smaller dishes perhaps !!!! somehow I doubt it.

Well you can get 1N on an 80cm dish, but to get it at the same level as a "zone 1" in the UK you still need a 1.8m. Also, currently in band c (where all current 1N transmissions are) there is no interference from Badr5, but in band d (Astra 2D) there is so I think even a 1.2m is going to be marginal if/when 1N takes over band d transmissions.

Yes the 5980 found the signal using Crazyscan and EasyBlindscan. A new driver was released for the device last week that makes it fully compatible with these programs as long as you have all the latest versions of the software. Can't comment on the sensitivity of the tuner for fringe reception as I don't really use it on weaker sats. I bought it for its blind scan capability and CI and it works very well on a decent spec PC. I had to upgrade to a USB 3.0 card as my on-board USB was a bit iffy for HD signals. I know the 5980 isn't a USB 3.0 device but the increased overall spec of the card helped throughput a lot and HD is very smooth now.

Thanks for the tip.

I don't need a CI slot so I've ordered a TBS Q-Box DVB-S2 form Amazon for £48 which CrazyScan claims they support.

I'm going to use it in the UK to watch FTA F1 from 19E on my HTPC but I will take it to Spain to see what it is like with fringe reception. That's assuming they don't close down 2D too early and switch everything to 1N!

I have lock on 10.964H with Channel 5. Also 11.053H (ITV Central) hoever nothing at all on 11127V (C4 HD)

The Horizontals are coming in 2.5db lower than the 2A and 2B north beams, so I am tending to ask the same question as Ralph, is this a wide beam, or a very poor UK Spot

The latter - we know the channels arent available further east.
