your question has been answer about 4 times, im not trying to be offensive with how i put the answers again but i think spelling it out in plain english is hte only way ou might understand an realise.

1. You do not need ot be a sky customer
2. You only need a uk address and sky box
3. doesnt matter there is alreadya sky sub there sky are a business money is money to them and you can easily have a freesat from sky box conencted to teh current dish at that property, i know oyu wont but they dnt need to know that
4. since it is for teh free to view channel they wont ask any questions regarding pairing ccause they dnt bother
5. they dnt care if yoru using it jsut to receive the ree to view channels it not a subscription card so doesnt matter you can not get premium content from it
6. you just say you want one of the cards for yoru receiver so you can view the extra free to view channels you cant get on freesat but do not wanta subscription for premium channels
7. it doesnt amtter if you use it in another box afterwards as long as you know the box your pairing it with teh serial you can then have it work in other non sky boxes

edit: you just need to bit the bullet and do it stop crapping yourself

Yes you need to activate (NOT pair) it; yes they will ask a question - but only the details of the card and box and no, you definitely do NOT need to be a current $ly member.

When you get the card you'll have to connect the box to a dish so that it gets a signal from 28E and then phone the number that comes with card to activate said card.

And that's it.

As you have been told many times you need a box to activate the card in. If your parent or brother or whoever isn't willing to let their box to be used, and you haven't brought your box with you, then you will have to find another box.

I dont have my box, so will just have the card sent here to my parents.

If it isnt sent before i leave they can post it out to me in Slovakia.

I will put it in my box, and get my bro to do it on the phone with them.

Yes, that is consideration. Not sure whether it's the north or south beam that carries the activation signal.

But doesnt the card need to be paired to the box in question, that being the box in Slovakia.

I did post on here if I was needing to bring my box here, and was told it wasnt a must.

If i pair this card say to my parents box, wont it unregister there current subscription card?

Or I could buy another second hand 2600c1 box here and try and sort it out by wednesday morm b4 i go

NO, NO, NO, the card is NOT paired, it is only activated.

You put it any working, connected box for it to be activated. That might be why you thought you didn't have to bring your own box with you. If you didn't have access to a box in the UK then it would have made life easier for yourself if you had brought one with you.

As I said ages ago, if you use a box with a current subscription card normally inserted then, after you had activated your FFS card then you might have to get the subscription card re-paired. But that is only a matter of making another phone call after the FFS card has been activated.

As you suggest, buying another box while you're here is another answer. You have to disconnect your parents box from the satellite dish while your card updates but their card will remain paired to their box.

Oh thats hgreat then, as yesterday I found a Ds440n thrown out for th rubbish by our flat.

It was in a new hd sky box so i assumed it upgraded.

So i could use this, it does work as i tested it.

Im so thick when it comes to this, but as it will come to my parents postcode.

I assume that it will get the local news when used abroad like?

As I said, any box will do to activate the card. If the DS440n is anything like the DS430n then it's not as sensitive as the 2600 and may not be as useful back in Slovakia but, as it cost nothing, take it with you as a backup.

The card will get you the local news for whatever region the postcode is in, Northampton I presume. And in whatever box it is used.

yer you are correct, the ds440n is not a good box, and i have no room to take it with me.

But i will get it activated in that box if it is what it is ok.

will the card then also have the 3.8.8 software on it also??

Software is not on the Card ............. it's stored in the Box itself.

The DS440n should be fine.

Unfortunately the card doesnt carry the software for the box. This is only available over the air, i.e. when the box is powered and connected to a satellite dish. This might be a problem for your box in Slovakia if it can't get all the satellite signals.

Without wishing to confuse you, if your local region is on a channel you can't get back in Slovakia then you'll still need to tune in to another region manually via other channels (until they all move to Astra 1N, then it's back to square one...)

Forget about 1n for the moment. It might make life easier for you but until it actually starts transmitting programmes you won't know.

You can't change the area manually. It's set by the card and that is set by the postcode it's sent to.
