I spent an hour digging the path along the front of the cottage out this morning, and made a snowman at the same time (well a snow heap - the snow is too dry and powdery to make a proper snowman...)

Theres now another 2" fallen on the path, and theres 12.5" sitting on the top of the birdtable :-Nooo

Great photos. I hope you had your kilt for Braw Lad and Lass day.

:-rofl2

I wonder if the owners of the cars have left them out for a few days. It helps if they take out the battery and store it indoors (and spray the connections when they are reconnected). The Scandinavians and Canadians I know have garages attached to the house so their cars stay warm, and so they don't have to worry about the more extreme cold. Of course, that gives them even more opportunities to make fun of British houses and garages.

So I bet you are looking forward to another day off, and SWMBO turn to clear the path... O-Ha

Braw Lads day is in June. Theoretically all the secondary schools are open atm but things are still changing. However there no way Im taking the car out today - its up to its axles - so I'll be walking the mile and a bit in if we are open.

One of the girls who lives 20 miles east of here over near Kelso says they have 21" of snow

A little more this morning, but not too bad.

SWMBO has cancelled her work trip to Leeds, though.

Some of the schools reopened this morning but in the face of deteriorating conditions again all the schools which opened in the region are closing again at lunchtime.

Walked in this morning - slippery as hell underfoot.

Getting dire again here now ................ SWMBO got to her Office ok, but I'm urging her to consider coming back home as it has snowed relentlessly all morning and shows no sign of stopping.

My shovel is nearly worn out!

Almost no snow here, but there is about half an inch of sheet ice on the roads and pavements. A few miles down the road though, Epsom is impassable in most places, and Leatherhead is gridlocked with the police moving the last of a convoy of lorries that got stuck last night.

I'm a bit annoyed that the weathermen on many channels are comparing temperatures with Russia, in particular Siberia. Moscow this morning was -23 C and parts of Siberia are in the region of -50 C.

Those TV weathermen are useless cretins. I have often wondered if they actually go outside, or even live in the real world at all. Carol Kirkwood is the only decent one, being Scottish she is used to snow and ice, she usually gets it right. The rest are usually way off. If they had real jobs they would have been sacked by now.

This is nothing like Siberia where it will soon be down to -60 C for a few months. It has gone down to -15 C at night here on occasions. I have still been able to drive around in the dark without problems, except perhaps the dazzle of staring at snow in the headlights after 30 minutes, it gives a bit of a headache. I imagine the weathermen would only drive at night in these conditions with their mummy to hold their other hand.

And no mobile phones in the old days.

well what fun day had so far, got to work about 9 and was sent home, about 12ish get to bus station in leeds as I dont drive atm and all arriva services off, walked for about 3 miles to near the first direct bank a quarter of way home, sister kindly came and picked me up in her little ford ka which was coping with snow quite well, diverted to winsors and got some nice quality boots for 15 pound as work shoes aren't good choice of footwear for these conditions.

tivu, I'm surprised she bothered to get there as in leeds around 11-1ish there was a lot of snow came down and was awful getting about.

analoguesat, have you de-iced the lnbs lol glad I'm not up there as it must be awful, I'm sure people in the nordic regions are laughing at us at the moment.

edit as i type now its come down even more, warm water over the dishes at the ready :)

Yes, the Leeds trip is postponed until March now (on the assumption the weather might have improved by then .................)

She got chucked out at 2pm and managed to slither home in one of the few breaks in the snowfall we've had.

Took me a whole hour to clear away the driveway so she could get in off the lane.

Got a few pics today, though not of the thicker snow after this afternoon's wintery downpour, but got a couple nonetheless... :)

And we got a birdfeeder, and within two minutes of me putting it up, a robin turned up to dive right in... :D

I have to clear them every day atm. However the snow is so dry and powdery that its not causing too many problems where the lnb's get covered :)
