Strange, here SAPAAH (Scoff A Penguin At All Hours) positively promotes the practice.

a lot of snow has thawed out here but thought I'd clear the snow/ice from the pavement outside but its still solid, the snow/ice was coming up easily when I was clearing the garden path.

have had some water frozen in the down pipe from the guttering though so had to bang it to remove a blockage of ice earlier.

Well, it's bluddy cold and icy out there, serious risk of black ice on the roads, I slid on a couple of patches, glad I'm not allowed to drive, cos I certainly wouldn't want to be out in this weather tonight...

Extremely cold this morning.

Our local Met. at Topcliffe has figured prominently in the coldest places reports in the papers and on telly in the last few days and it was -15C at 07.00.

Going up rapidly now ............. tricky driving conditions, though as the ice is patchy and inconsistent owing to the absence of further snowfall and the partial thaw.

Oh joy - another 2.5" of snow fell this afternoon on icy ground. The drive home was absolutely horrible. We slithered to a halt on the hill and I had great fun getting the Fiesta moving again. Against all the recommendations I finally managed to get some traction by spinning the wheels in second gear. :D

Ive found the advert of the plastic zip tie snow chains I mentioned a while back. They are called Put & Go but only seem to be available in Italy Anyone know if they are available in the UK?

If anytone wants a look at the advert its running on Pianeta TV on 11623H on 13E

If I can find a UK supplier I think I'll buys some after the nightmare of getting up our hill tonight.

Well, we had a fun day, the boiler spat it's dummy out and barfed up an error code and completely shut down, so for pretty much most of the day, the house was flippin' cold!!!

And the solution? Pressing the red flashing button, reset the boiler and it fired up like nothing had happened... :confused

Makes you wonder if modern computer controlled boilers just do stuff like that to get you to call out and pay for an engineer, and all that needs doing is a press of a button and handing over £50 for the privilege... :-rofl2

Lock Out occurs for a reason: If it keeps happening then there may well be a failing sensor or other part.

I had to fit a new Oil Pump to ours not long before this cold snap (I assume yours is Gas, but the principles are not hugely dissimilar).

But at least our new (ish) Acer Laptop still works, despite the kiss of death from certain quarters ................. ;)

I think it's just the condensate pipe freezing again, pull it off on the base of the boiler and it's happy, stick it back on and it stops working.... :confused

Been looking at proper installations of condensate pipes, and it should be a small pipe from boiler to outside, then small pipe sits in a big pipe as used for sink and bath drainpipes, ours is just small pipe all the way to the drain grate outside, so the thing just freezes up and blocks the pipe.... :confused

Could well be ............. there's a sensor embedded in the condensate trap that detects when it is overfull.

Trouble is, simply removing the sensor wire won't help as the condensate will eventually back up into the boiler box.

Sh*t

Creek

Paddle (absence of)

As a temporary measure, you could put a washing up bowl under the trap and slacken the trap outlet pipe, so the water dribbles into the bowl.
