All winter all I`ve seen is a few snow flakes in Teesside the other night and hailstones in amsterdam at the begining of the month.

I`d like it to snow round here so I`ve finally got a valid excuse not to leave the house

Oh lovely - tomorrows amber weather warning:

An area of rain, sleet and snow is expected to move in from the west during Monday morning. Moderate accumulations of snow are likely above 250 metres, with some temporary accumulations of snow at low levels for a time in the east of this area, whilst rain falling onto sub-zero surfaces will increase the risk of ice in the west and at low levels further east. The public should be prepared for the risk of travel disruption.

Does anyone know the website that lets you enter your lat/long or postcode and it tells you how far above seal evel you are? I remember seeing a website somewhere but cannot find a link.

I know I`m not that far above sea level being so close to the coast but it may be useful for others who maybe higher than me who don`t know how high they are

You can get that from the OS maps for your area.

Find your location then choose the Leisure map tab. That'll put the contour lines on the screen.

Frozen slush on the pavements this morning ...
Almost did an unplanned Triple Axel on my walk to the shop for some milk..

No snow here as yet, but the neighbour's decking appears to have been fitted without any angle for water run off, and consequently (whilst off down the garden to feed their chickens), I had to negotiate the local ice-rink. Not nice at all.

Google Earth does that, just drag your mouse over the location you want and it gives you height above sea level next to the lat and long.

Spoke too soon: Just been to do fire, flood and security rounds on my absent neighbour's cottage and the wind is fair howling (howling, I tell ye) and somewhat chillier than of late.

Local forecast is really most unpleasant - time to bung another sandbag on the patio mount.

the wind is strong here too, surprised the confier tree is still standing in the neighbours garden as its way taller than the house.

i thought you had 30kg of sand on the mount so it shouldnt go anywhere.

need to find another spot for my dish as i dont like it being up above the gutter

Just been for a run down town to the bottle bank. Its absolutely horrible out - strong winds making it feel bitterly cold, and heavy showers blowing through every few minutes.

So....there I was about 10:30 last night, reading through the latest posts here and I heard what sounded like distant thunder. However, armed with a torch I had a quick look round outside and found that a wall on the old burnt out barn had partly collapsed. It had been quite windy with driving rain so that, coupled with the lack of mortar in between the stones, I guess a collapse was always on the cards. Attached photos show wall (RHS party wall) just after the fire and it's current state. I'm toying with the idea of giving the remaining stones a helping 'hand', as I'd sooner it drops when I want, rather than when an animal might be underneath.

I rather think you'd have to overlook the great pile of rubbish that's accumulated in the bottom which I managed to edit out photographically. Besides, there are plenty of structures in a similar state for sale here......though sadly the days when they were snapped up by rose tinted spectacle wearing, would be property owners, are long gone...
