An advertising agency for BMW has paid to name a cold weather front sweeping Europe "Cooper" in Germany, after the carmaker's Mini Cooper.

But the public-relations stunt by the agency went wrong after the freezing conditions led to dozens of deaths.

Germany's meteorology institute allows the sponsorship of weather systems.

And of course, BMW are famed for their cars' excellent traction in snowy weather, it's why they always end up driving backwards with wheels turning forwards, they make cars that can moonwalk, and they go offroad too really easily, sometimes the cars do it all by themselves too.... :-rofl2

One of my mates is off to southern Poland for her first ever trip abroad this weekend. Talk about bad timing - the overnight temperatures in Krakow are expected to dip into the -20's over the weekend!

:-rofl2

Looks like no work for me for the next few days. All I've got to do tomorrow is stock up on pallets from the local industrial site for the wood stove, and get some provisions in.

Saturday evening/Sunday morning onwards looks like a whole load of fun.

I'm confused, isn't this what in the past we called British winter?
It snows a bit, then it melts relatively quickly. We mess about, complain and carry on. A few idiots crash.

As for BMW's, well....
My journey to work a few years back took me along the M40 through the Chilterns to Stokenchurch, an area very susceptible to snow at unexpected times of year.
My colleagues used to take bets on how many 3-series we'd see stuffed up the banking on snowy mornings. :D

Why 3-series? Why on straight bits of road?:confused

Southern Poland is nice this time of the year. Especially places like Zakopane - lovely mountains, grilled cheese and sausages.

Rear wheel drive, bald "performance" tyres and driven by inexperienced, cocky SOABs? :-rofl2

The 3 series was a common fleet car for many years, with annual mileage of 40/50000 not uncommon among young impressionable chancers. Your average yoof salesperson was often taken by surprise with the phenomenal power of the 2 litre engine through a rear differential.

'tis a glorious day again here in t'repooblic.

No frost on t'car at all - so nothing for tonight's expected snowfall to cling to.

I did ask at our local petrol station (A mere 8 miles away) if they had got tomorrow's papers yet, just in case I couldn't risk going into town again, but sadly the technology up here has advanced little since Galileo.

Amazed that the guy at the petrol station could understand you with your tongue stuck firmly in your cheek.

Here we can buy (at vastly inflated prices) UK Sunday papers on Monday, though I've never succumbed.

BTW, we're forecast 'proper' snow this afternoon, tomorrow and Monday morning.....deep joy....

Of all the things Skimwords could have chosen to link too on a satellite based forum why did it chose oil paintings? :confused
