Yes, it moved here on Monday but went somewhere else yesterday.....the wildlife seem to like the conditions though.....A fox has been using the long weeds as cover and has taken all my chickens (over a couple of weeks, not all at once LOL)......and I'll have to chop down some thistles in the meadow that are over 2 metres tall.....

You know it's summer when there's a huge thunderstorm circling overhead that refuses to go away while dropping a crap-tonne of rain all over the place forming streams on the roads and probably flooding somewhere low-lying...

Not a bad day here at all, the sun shone constantly (which was nice considering I was running cables through a loft)

Today looks like the last day of outdoor work for a while. I'm not sure where the weather thread has gone to but Friday onwards is not looking good, heavy frequent storms, and potential serious flooding in a large number of areas.

What we're experiencing is the effects of that, planet warms up, ice melts in the polar caps, salinity of the seawater drops, messes with the gulf stream bringing warmer waters to us, which affects the jetstreams that supply us with warm air, so they end up blowing the wrong way, and hey presto, storms, floods, little sunshine, not the idea that people have of gloriously sunny days with Texas temperatures for most of the year with sunburn all round... ;)

That said, there are a few exaggerations when it comes to global warming though, the planet goes through cycles of hot & cold periods where the caps melt and disrupt the rest of the planet, followed by a big freeze which ends up with us under a lot of ice, so it's going to happen whether we like it or not... :-ohcrap

But, it's still a good idea to save energy use, as it'll come in handy when the planet freezes over again... :-rofl2

Climate change - a process that goes on despite the efforts of Man!

Also, agreeing with Deux Chevaux aussi, we really ought not to exhaust in the blink of an eye the fuel deposits created over millions of years, even it if scarcely affects the climate (as I and a great many others believe).

Mind you, Sonnetpete will be ok as it is still de rigeur to burn peasants in some cultures!

I'd go one further CJ ...
I haven't seen a summer this bad ...in my entire lifetime...

Also ..yes there are natural cycles the earth experiences ..but to ignore the effects of man upon his environment is imo very very short sighted ..
Why exacerbate the natural cycles ...which is what we as a species are doing ..
Man has more in common with a virus than a species ...myself included..
Population growth exponentially is in part responsible...
Resources are finite ...but our consumption and waste are infinate..
Just my 10 cents ...
I love my blue marble ...but fear for its ability to cope with mans excesses...
Not spoken as a man worrying for the future of his children ..
I have non ...so why should I care ..??
I feel we are abusing this tiny corner of the western spiral arm ...and life as I see it in any form is precious.

Can't dispute that, just like the virus that attacks cells in the human body, we attack the earth in the same way, digging mineshafts to pull out the resources, cutting holes to suck out the oil, and releasing toxic waste into the air, ground and water, it's little wonder that the earth is struggling to battle the virus that is mankind...

I think this century will be the make or break for the human race, we either do something to stop the polluting of the planet and live with it and not just on it, or we don't and it fights back and kills us (assuming we don't kill ourselves beforehand), and as I probably have 50-something years left (as I'm 26, 27 come august) on this earth, I'd prefer to see the former...

And on a lighter note, a funny picture to depict this virus thing... :D

If you can get an idea that the universe is (in effect) infinite, and the postulations of astronomers just a few centuries ago of possibly billions of stars out there, and only thirty years ago, billions upon billions, then you are in for a surprise.

Number Of Stars In The Universe Could Be 300 Sextillion, Triple The Amount Scientists Previously Thought: Study

Couple that with the sheer number of 'tiny corner of the western spiral arm' scenarios that are somewhat similar our own, especially now that there is still only the 'observable universe' (that humankind started looking at a million years or so ago) then you should understan that this blue marble and all within it is duplicated so many times elsewhere around us both in the past and present, that 'tiny corner of the western spiral arm' scenarios will have had worse, and some will have had better.

Anyway, -currently - it's good for ducks.

Don't forget, tomorrow you could wake up dead. (which in itself is a bit of a nonstarter considering current physics includes conservation of energy at its foundation) and why the food bowl of Schrodinger's cat emptied daily, despite the box never opening when the Hamiltonians looked after it.

How could you wake up dead when the dead never wake up? :confused

Anyway, natures alarm clock woke me at 7am on the dot this morning (kind of rare cos even man-made alarm clocks can't do that with me!!!), a big rumble of thunder, certainly wakes me up pretty sharpish cos I hate thunder...

Of course, it was only a couple of rumbles, followed by a big dump of rain, and now it's gone back to being foggy....

Hope it doesn't try thundering again today cos I'm off into Durham to seek out a new (to me) B&Q and a KFC next to it, cos I like wandering round B&Q to see what stuff they have going cheap... :D

I'm sure it'll rain though, it always does...

Its a well known fact ...assuming you're a Big Bang Theory fan (the US tv show that is ) ....that Shrodingers Cat is literally a Pussy Magnet...
;)
It was this very hypothesis which gave Leonard a shot with Penny ..
I suspect Shrodinger could have made better use of his cat ..if only he had known ..
:D

As for the Ducks ...He'd have been better off using them in the box instead of his faithful feline ..
