FWIW heres my current frequency list. Scottish Borders - ex Sky 43cm dish - so the lnb skew is probably rather less than optimal. (This didnt matter with the high power of 5WA)

10970V 29950 - lock
11054V 29950 - lock
11096V 29950 - no lock
11138V 29950 - lock
11456H 2400 - lock (but takes a while)
11471V 29950 - no lock
11472H 9900 - lock
11480H 3215 - lock
11512V 29950 - lock
11554V 29950 - no lock
11595V 29950 - lock
11596H 30000 - lock
11679V 29950 - lock
12564V 29950 - lock
12690V 29950 - no lock
12700H 11168 - no lock

Exactly the same here this evening. I missed out 12732V 29950 last time. This is locked.

12073 H 27500 TV5 monde HD on 26E
"I can only get TV5 Monde Orient with a 100cm dish you may need to experiment with your settings from 26 east to 25.6 east or 26.3 east for some reason I have found this broadcast is better with a slight adjustment to your set up."said William-1

Is there a better time of day in terms of propagation for me to try 25.7 or 26.2 ,in order to lock 12073H27500 on 26E?

Evenings are best for reception @ 26 east.

I have tried, hoping the full moon would draw in more signal from 12073 H 27500 TV5 monde HD on 26E
Nothing nada zilch!
on my left comes 23°East ,and on my right 28°E and a pretty large in-between is fatally empty
when other transponders are at 75-78 very solid on 26E
I am surprised you catch this in Essex when here being much nearer the foot print ,I don t even get a small signal
and a guy in Montpellier gets it! i must find a 100cm or forget about tv5 in HD
It was fun trying anyway!
Have a good evening!

When the Astra 2E transponder 12070 H 27500 went off last year the Badr-4 12073 H 27500 went up to 78% SQ this is the main problem if the Astra 2E transponder was on the UK footprint you will get this one but it is on the Europe Footprint & for some reason this is much stronger at your location than mine :(

In deed. I would say real reception is even worse than projected, because if you extrapolate the coutour lines till, say 39 dBW, i sould be able to receive almost everything.

View attachment 128403

I'm having extremely hard time. No signal during most of time, sometimes breaking up. It seems I must be close to a null. I have some vertical transponders coming in, but very marginally.
All 5WB transponders being received at Galway West of Ireland. I have noticed the quality level has increased a little at night on the MS frequency 11.509 (using 1.25 Gilbertino Inverto Quad Ultra LNB

So it seems that 7A reinforcing 5ºW is not going to happen.
This leaves 5ºW with less than half ku transponders when 5WA is finally decomissioned. Some services will be terminated and some will be moved to 9ºE. But what will be the long run future of thsi position? Will Eutelsat afford to not have this position reinforced for 15 years?

We can consider strong possibibility that one of the Hotbirds can be moved to 5ºW in the medium term, since 13ºE will soon be reinforced with 2 new satellites. However, similarly to the 7A case, Eutelsat can also have other plans to the birds that will be freed from 13E.
The final possibility is that a new satellite can be ordered soon. Or, completely opposed, nothing at all will happen.

Does anyone know how the insurance works? I'd heard that as a rough rule of thumb a satellite owner paid about 50% on top of the total price of the satellite in insurance premiums to cover the launch and deployment. But I wonder what happens if there's only a partial failure, would Eutelsat only get back a proportion of the sum insured? Is that what's preventing them simply ordering a new craft? Certainly it's been interesting seeing how an operator tries to get out of the hole that - certainly in my view - was largely of their own creation, due to leaving things far too late in terms of making sure 5W was properly covered. I can't see SES Astra getting into such a muddle.....

Most likely, the situation remains as it is, Eutelsat 5 WA will continue operation in 5 west ,
Eutelsat mentioned that recently after updating E5WB information on their website...

Yes, I know about that, and agree with you. But this is the near term scenario. It is not viable for some services to be served in inclined orbit. And the inclination will increase... I would guess it can't last more than 1 ~2 years.

I want to know if the tv channels in Italy will remain at 5 degrees west ... or will they be permanently transferred at 9 degrees west?
If the plan was that, the Italian TV channels would be permanent at 5 degrees west, why they transferred them to 9 degrees east!
Due to the fact that in Romania the Italian TV channels cannot be received from 9 degrees east, nor with 240 cm antennas ... this is a big problem ... even with the 300 cm antenna ... you can only receive 4 transponders from the Italian spot, the one from 9 degrees east !!!

Eutelsat are paying €10 million to have the Italian head end dishes re-aligned to 9E. I thinks its a safe bet the services will move there - & stay there.
