Just realised - its 30 years since young Riccardo Paletti died at the start of the 1982 Canadian GP.

He crashed his Osella into the back of a stalled Ferrari at the start

Yep, I remember that as it was the same year we lost Gilles Villeneuve at Zolder. Sid Watkins (the F1 doctor) was trying to stabilise Paletti when the fuel ignited. It took 25 minutes to cut him out as they were worried that sparks would re-ignite the fuel. A sad year...

Sunds like a bizarre incident - she crashed into the back of the transporter that carried the car (!), and has serious head injuries

she crashed into the metal tailgate which was lowered at the back of the truck.
this is when she was meant to come into the "pits", but suddenly accelerated...maybe not used to the 2 pedal or left foot braking f1 car?
reports say her head took a very heavy knock - but is concious and talking.
