Welcome JimmyH, no taking of the :-peepee - only good natured banter on this thread :D

Oh and best of luck in beating some of the folk who have done this before :-rofl2

make sure you fill in the fastest lap & qualifying position fields - its all guesswork but if you hit the jackpot you get extra points.

So first qualifying is over, and the Hopeless Hispanias get to pack up early having fallen foul of the reintroduced 107% rule. :D Their appeal to race under the "exceptional circumstances" rule has been rejected by the race stewards. And to be honest Im not surprised - their times were horribly slow - Karthikeyan (24th) was over 3 seconds off the time set by d'Ambrosio who qualified 22nd.

Sutil was caught out by the loss of grip when he opened the rear wing flap on the final corner and had a spectacular spin on the finish straight. He was lucky not to hit the wall.

Up at the front Vettel has marked his card and posted a warning to the other drivers - he is on pole with half a second advantage over Hamilton in second.

Congrats to Tivù on what I think is his first pole position in our league. I'm sneakily positioned in midfield waiting for the others in front to 'fall off'........Maybe that artifical rain idea doesn't seem so daft to me now....

Oh yes so he is. Stewards I wish to lodge a technical infringement :-rofl2

A most impressive qualifying debut for rookie Ricks Revvers - 3rd

However things are certain to change tomorrow and with lots of the F1 rookies close together on the grid the first few corners are going to be interesting

Not my best start, forgot to re-do the qual guesses and lap time when I changed the drivers. Still in touch however.:)

Dont give up yet...the DQs are string to come through....both Saubers DQed for "infringement in the uppermost rear wing element"...
does the FF1 system take these into account?
Or is it just the final positions at flag down, rather than the official results?

Well the first race is over and its great to have the F1 back on the telly. Vettel has had a masterful race to win from Hamilton.

Excellent performances from various drivers including Petrov (3rd) and Kobayashi (8th) and great debuts for the rookies Perez (7th) and de Resta (12th). The Sauber driver bought their vehicles home 7th & 8th but were later disqualified due to technical infringements with the rear wing actuators which was rather a shame after Perez came home having only one stopped.

In the league Tivu has taken an early lead, with Norm & Oily on the podium with him. Rookie Rick has proved to be a dark horse and is in a most respectable 4th.

Next race is in two weeks time, I will be on holiday away from the computer so will update the chat after I get back if no-one else has done it in the meantime.

Maverick will be able to answer this better if he sees it, but I think its set at the flag.

I think I let the team down even more Topper! I had to leave early this am, but was able to catch the German Cobbler DNF, which rather spoilt my selection. With the non start of Team Hapless (Hispania) I couldn't even pick up some crumbs. Oh well, roll on Malaysia!

There were a couple of cases like this last season (with DQ's) and the result was taken from the flag rather than after.

The race positions as per the chequered flag are used and not altered by later DQ's or time penalties AFAIAA

For the rookies in the competition you need to tweak your team before the next race. You have an additional $2million to play with after each race, and you can make 3 changes to the team per race.

Its up to you if you want to save the $2million up and make a big purchase after a few more races or make incremental purchases after each race. There are advantages & disadvantages in both.

Make sure you do the qualifying position & fastest lap predictions every race - you wont score with them every week but the few extra points they give when you do have a good guess are useful.

BTW all the new folks should be delighted with your performances at the first race - none of you are bottom :-rofl2

Oh - anyone who wants to join in please do - theres still plenty of points to be awarded over the rest of the season, and if you pick well you can soon overhaul the points deficit from missing the first race.
