My PC didn't have an RS232 port either, but the motherboard (Gigabyte) had a COMA serial port header, so just needed a backplate RS232 connector to the header.

I have a Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H and I don't think its got that, but I don't even know what a COMA serial port is. I don't think I have any option but to get the RS232 PCI Card.

Should be a 10-pin header at the bottom of the board marked COMA or COM.

May have found it if its next to the last PCI slot. Could you give the a link to where I can get the RS232 backplate?

On reflection, I think you need to be careful about ordering this one, as Gigabyte use a different header pin arrangement to some other boards. The one I obtained was from DABS, wired specifically for a Gigabyte board, but they are now discontinued.

I understand the correct one is compatible with an ASUS mobo, but don't quote me. Try doing a search for Gigabyte "com port cable"

After doing some research I've decided to go for the TBS 6981 as I really want a dual tuner which can do HD. Out of curiousity is it possible to get Sky on Windows Media Centre or would I have to use DVBDream, DVBViewer, etc?

Don't know much about WMC, but I don't see why not, just another application for your tuner I suppose.

BTW, searching for the Gigabyte com cable with its part number finds two sellers, not in the UK unfortunately -

Thanks for that, but I managed to get it off eBay and I've just also ordered my TBS 6981.

Managed to install everything, however I'm not sure if the com port cable is working properly as it doesn't seem to power up my Infinity card reader. Does the port cable require a driver to install correctly?

Have you enabled the serial port in the BIOS?

Not sure what smartcard reader you have, but most are powered through a USB port. Also, must be in Phoenix mode to communicate via the serial connection.

I Have an InfinityUSB programmer. The problem I'm now having is that the Blue LED keeps flashing and the software says "programmer disconnected" on the bottem left. Windows 7 seems to not want to install the drivers as they are not digitally signed or something life that.

Oh I see. Could be the problem then, drivers not recognised by Win7. Not unusual that, I've had similar experiences with other hardware. Is there a wbsite for your Infinity programmer where they might have updated drivers for Win7?

I checked that out, and the latest release says:

"Support for Windows Vista 64 on Infinity USB Phoenix (drivers are now signed)."

So I'm not sure what the problem is.

So it looks like it doesn't have Win 7 drivers. Is your Win 7 OS installed over Win XP? If that's the case, I think you can run in XP mode.

Drivers are compatible with Windows 7 according to the manufacturer. Anyway, it doesn't matter now as I managed to get past that by Disabling the Digital Signature requirement. Now whats the next step?

Just so its clear I have the Inifinity USB Phoenix.

I have tested the entire setup thus far using the PH/SM test software and can confirm that everything seems to work on Phoenix mode at 3.68 MHz.

I'm not sure what DVB software I should use, I was thinking to use DVBDream but was wondering if that would be easy to setup with NDScam?

Not sure where the various files go in DVBDream, doesn't mention DVBDream in the readme file. Different viewers have different folders to place the files in. Perhaps a search online might bring up some info.
