It all depends on the make of your dish, how easily it can be converted, and what might lie in the way of other satellites you might like to get.

Take some pictures of what you have and others should be able to help with rough pricing.

Mate did you leave your hacksaw here or is it rolfs? Either way i have one i never had before, I can post it back to you if its yours

had some rain today and picture didnt break up.

wasnt heavy but wasnt to light either :)

However john in swansea was seeing 60% signal when I was seeing 48% signal same time of day and same weather conditions :(

My dish is only just out performing the 1.8m by a couple of %!

Not sure what to do now hmmm

Ask CH if he still has that 3.1m whopper available :D

However remember that you and John are 200 miles apart - it might have been raining in both locations but the amount of atmospheric moisture in the air could have been vastly different.

Plus there is the differences in cloud thicknesses to consider.

Really dont think I can use the 3.1M LOL! Thats just to big!

John's signal always beats mine by atleast 6% all times days and weather, sometimes more then 10% more.

I am not sure what to do im ok in dry conditions and light rain, not sure an upgrade to the 2 piece dish is really worth it, even if I do get 10% more signal, still doesnt give me much more of a rain margin so hmmm lol

Don't forget, Gary, that Strength and Quality readings are quite fickle - even using the same receiver, differences in cable length and type, differences in the LNB etc. will all have a bearing on what the apparent readings are, so don't be too much influenced by comparative readings for locked signals.

In reality, you can only use your readings to optimise your own system - and at the end of the day if you maintain lock even in inclement weather, that is a result.

So what you really need is a canopy ............... !!

Just in case anyone feels peckish, I said "canopy", not "canapé".

This satellite is completely unpredictable, at least you knew where you stood with Nilesat.

^^

I wonder if a gazebo type tent might help if its well waterproofed so the water runs off.

The fabric will be more or less microwave transparent

Just when we thought the end of this thread was in sight!

@ AS : Have you hit on a niche market? Microwave transparent canopies? Available in all sizes up to 3.1 Metre?

(not to be confused with canapes to go in the microwave of course)

Like you, who knows! Its there sometimes when its bucketing down, then gone when its spitting at the same time on another day. Some mornings I wake up and there is no signal with clear skies and other mornings it stronger than ever.

Prime focus dishes aren't so badly affected by rain as there is no plastic feedhorn cover for water to accumulate on.
