The final group stage games provided us with quite a few surprises; France are officially a national disgrace (no, really?!), defending champions Italy were dumped out by Slovakia, England finally came to the party to advance at the expense of Slovenia, and Ghana are the last remaining African team in the tournament.

As the group phase came to an end, aamir007 is still on top with Spain and now commands a sizable lead of 21pts over Norm's Italy. aamir007 also become the first manager to score a century in Round 3.

pazinho dropped down to 3rd with his Dutch squad, as my England team remain in 4th. Traditional World Cup favourites, Brazil, have climbed up to 5th under the guidance of john_graydon, and in the process overtake Analoguesat's North Korea and tanman's Uruguay.

The big success story of Round 3 is Germany, managed by kreacher, as they have shot up the standings into 8th on the back of score of 92pts.

The favourites mostly advance into the quarters from the Round of 16, with Germany's demolition of England of particular note, although the Lampard 'ghost-goal' may have more long-term ramifications for the sport. Argentina's impressive victory over Mexico was slightly overshadowed by a clearly offside goal by Tevez, and Paraguay defeated Japan on penalties to qualify for the last 8 for the first time.

aamirs007's Spain is now the clear favourite for the title, leading as he is now by 28pt, building on his lead over Norm and the Italians.

Unlike the real England, my Three Lions are going well, overtaking the Netherlands as managed by pazinho to go up to 3rd. Still in 5th is john_graydon and Brazil as Johnny's Selecao under went a massive 36 transfers!

Germany and Netherlands have become the favourites in the minds of many, as the two northern European heavyweights knocked out South America's big two as the Dutch downed Brazil and Germany battered Argentina 4-0. Uruguay came through in somewhat inglorious style against Ghana, and Spain scrapped through a poorly refereed encounter with Paraguay in which David Villa was once again the hero of the hour.

The World Cup is aamir007's to lose now, as his Spanairds have increased their lead to a massive 45pts with only four games remaining in the tournament. If Norm's Italy are to win now, it would be Norm's greatest SupaLiga victory.

Brazil, as you would expect, are in the top 3 now as john_graydon has been a real wheeler-dealer in the transfer market during the Cup. As a result, I have seen my England team fall out of the top 3 and into 4th, just ahead of pazinho's Netherlands.
