This feller just turned up perched on the pallet outside my porch door...I think it's a grasshopper but I thought they were much smaller?

Hi SP, It's not a grasshopper but a Great Green Bush Cricket (Tettigonia viridissima) It must be nice at yours because they like it warm and sunny or it's looking for somewhere nice and warm to stay!!

Thanks bim, having Googled it, the one you mention does look identical. It was a very mild early Autumn here (over 20C some days) so maybe they are more common this year. That's about the third I've spotted but the first I've managed to photograph...

Why these ladybirds found this handrail a good place to sunbathe a couple of weeks ago I have no idea unless the rail had absorbed the heat from the winter sun

The camera is an awesome bit of kit for a non SLR although due to pressure of work I have next to no time to get to grips with it. I took the moon picture using a tripod and a radio controlled remote shutter release.
Here is a bird picture I took hand held at full zoom bracing myself against a doorframe at I would guesstimate at about 40 feet probably on the first day that I got the camera.

My feeder was not touched for the first three weeks that I had it but the last two days the neon sign must have been lit, it has been like a bus station, they have been chasing each other around and have demolished most of it's contents, just a few poor quality snaps

Went for a walk yesterday in Helsinki, still a few boats on the water but most have been taken out ready for winter. It only takes a few of cold nights for the ice to start forming on the sea.
