Right on the slipway, no boat race this year! Sorry, next year, I think we already had this years raceA swan in Henley on Thames has decided to make a nest right in a rather busy and inconvenient place so someone had cordoned it off. It didn't seem to mind people walking by.

If your correct, and I´m sure you are, rather poetic that salt water, ie seawater killed them off, which is where the cuttlefish live!The 'whipping sting' in the 1981 BBC series was AFAIK taken from the squid/cuttlefish design.
