Hello,

I do not have (unfortunately) laser pointer to take measurements accurately or we'll have to use another method to take these measures.

I know the focal length for the AS 1800 is 1100 mm.

Regards

Cardiff

Hi all. I think I still have a laser level in the shed, never used it in anger though. Will check when home and if I can will check the measurements, still advise FDX to check at the weekend if he can as two reports may be better than one, and if we differ we can double check!

Back home and found this at the back of the shed, next to a lion called Aslan and a witch!

laser1.jpg

Bearing in mind it is 50mm high, I figure allowing for the fact it´s rectangular rather than round, it will probably give a dot about 8 mm above centre of focus point for a 40 mm lnb. Will this be good enough for what you need to know, or shall I stick it back in the shed next to the witch!

Edit. Sorry to Feedsat_DXer for shortening the name to FDX in my previous post, I was on the I phone with no glasses and kept getting it wrong!

Well, Finally I did it tonight.
I tried to do this as better as possible.
my result for AB is 1298 mm

AC: +/- 1020 mm

I hope, other contributors will found nearly the same dimensions...

Thanks Feedsat , this data shows that my calculations from pictures send by You and Cardiff are more or less correct .
According to your messurement of A-B 1300 mm the focal lenght must be approx 1440 mm instead of the 1100 mm mentioned in the specs .
Those 1100 mm worried me , made me unshure .
Dishdept is 170 mm ( I believe) , subtracted 50 mm (hart clamp to feedhorn) .
Only if the direction of the laserline is the focal lenght , my assumption makes sense .
More questions , is the dish geometrically , meaning are the four holes as far from the top and the bottum ?
What is the distance between the two holes keeping the side-arms to the dish ?

Today I bought me this cutting machine , infact for wood but performs also very wel at aluminium .
It was too big to stay continuous on that wall-shelf , attached it at two alu beams with hinges at the top .
So when I dont need it , it can be folded down .

Its a small shed so I have to be resourceful .
Last week that part of wall was covered with garden tools , now they are in a cabinet outside the shed .

There is nothing to worry about! Producers allays mention distance from Focal point (in your case A+50mm) to the center of the parabola (not the offset cut-off, in your case it is point C). For big antennas point C is usually center of the parabola, in case of small antennas it is not always like that. focal lenght.jpg

No, they are closer to bottom than they are to the top. The distance between the two attachment points is around 157cm.

I have set up the laser and taken some measurements, and I hate to say I differ with Feedsat_DXer

First thing I did was check the focal length as stated by specs
focal1.jpg

focal2.jpg

I then taped the laser to the bottom half of the lnb holder ( the bolts are too short to clamp it ), ensuring it was laying flat
focal3.jpg

focal4.jpg

I then added the only long enough straight edge I could find to run the tests

focal5.jpg

Results will follow in next post as I scared of upload failure
