But will the soon to be released SX8 HD One knock the SX88 into a cocked hat?

The SX88 is hard on motorized dish systems. There is no desire or want to fix the motor issues. Probably what you see is what you get in the motor system because these last updates are mostly media updates. Still a decent receiver for the price.

you want to talk about the DisEqC 1.2 system?
With Usals it works well.
The problem with DisEqC 1,2, the satellite number is stored in the receiver and the corresponding number of pulse is stored in the engine.
The problem (but it is not the only receiver that has this problem) it places the numbers of the satellites at random and when we change the receiver must start all over again from the beginning.
This is actually a design problem for DisEqC 1.2.:(

The SX88 is hard on any motorized system because it makes the motor move too much. Very poor motor design with this receiver and a few others.

You're absolutely right.
That's why I run my antenna with an "Openbox S3 Mini HD" that has a much more precise engine control.

One thing they could fix is the ftp file transfer. You can ftp files from the box using FileZilla or similar, but you cannot ftp files to the box. Seems this would be easy to fix, but it has been ignored.

Enough of these bullshit upstream IPTV etc box updates.

Is there any reason the SX88 cannot have this "much more precise engine control" that the quoted box enjoys? Is DiSEqC 1.2 only an issue for the Octagon engineers?

Do they struggle with that *and* releasing GPL sources too?

IPTV is now provided by almost every receiver, to be competitive you must have it too.
Do not forget the price of the sx88, it's not a Porsche911, it's a Fiat500.
Receivers 2 or 3 times more expensive do not have an engine control that works better.
Do not take the example of E2, they are currently unable to have a blindscan (exception DM900).

What is the secret of getting WIFI adapter on SX 88 to work? I am using Asus usb n-13 dongle , a model that supports Linux . SX88 doesn't recognize it at all ,just shows message box : no WIFI device . I use this Ausu on my other pc so I know it' s not broken.

A list of supported wifi adapters from Octagon would be nice.

I have several different wifi adapters, and only one of them will work with the SX88. There is no way that I see to load wifi drivers into the SX88 so you will need to find a wifi adapter that works or has the correct driver loaded in the SX88 firmware.

Thanks , that answers my question . Sure thing , as you say a list would be a great help considering gazillions of WIFI adapters on the market .
I am in Europe , Poland and my plan was to get soundtrack on french channels on Eutelsat 5 W by streaming audio from SX88 to Samsung Galaxy phone with Kodi installed and connected to Yamaha amp. Now I can see that solving this simple problem is much more complicated and time consuming.

WiFi adapters: it seems very much down to a combination of the dongle chipsets and what drivers are installed in the receivers' firmware packages - the basic 150mbs ones (like the Ralink RT5370, versions of which I have several with different, or no, brand names) seem to work in almost anything including the SX88 because the drivers are installed as standard, whilst other/faster(?) chipsets like the RTI8192 often need their own drivers installed as plugins which seems not possible (even though the SX88 is Enigma-based). See the comments here so far, to which it would be useful to add your own experiences.

The Linux (lsusb) description for my SX88 wifi device is: "Ralink Technology, Corp. MT7601U Wireless Adapter".
This 150mps adapter works fine with my SX88.

That Ralink dongle would appear to be the same thing, or have the same chipset, as the one mentioned by Tururu in post #21 of the thread to which I pointed in post #595 here, for the Vu+ Solo2.
